Meh, it doesn't seem that expensive. It's a proprietary 1TB SSD. Sure, you can buy far better deals for a PC SSD of the same speed, but this was always the case for console accessories.

Well, "Crazy" expensive is not really what it is :)

SSD with that throughput today (I guess PCIe 4.0 only) is probably in that range... And this is a custom piece of hardware.
While not being cheap, this is not crazy expensive.

Ok i'll change it to not being 'crazy' expensive...but I find if a storage is almost the same price as a console...that's pretty expensive?

Also anything PC I can see as being expensive but consoles tend to be more on the consumer friendly side for cost.  But if people got money to burn then why not I guess

It is a lot of money :) I guess this will start going down in a year or two, but for now that's definitely a premium upgrade :)

I have still the 500 GB ps4 version and have an external HDD for my Xbox one...The last one was just because of the bc games but I was honestly fine. It certainly will be annoying in a few years but I expect those prices to drop fast like they always seem to do.

1TB SSDs with those data speeds are expensive.
Considering this is proprietary hardware it's not that much more. Just compare it to 20GB HDDs during 360 times. Those were crazy expensive.

That's very expensive. Considering the raw speed of the XSX SSD is 2400mb/s.

You can get a 1TB PC nvme SSD with equivalent raw speeds for like $120.

Matching the PS5's 4500mb/s would still be only about $160.

I was actually fearing worse since proprietary systems are always expensive, but yeah, it's still very expensive.

For comparison, A 1TB Mushkin Pilot-E, which is faster than the SSD in the XSX, is only 118€ - and that's with VAT included. You can get a faster 2TB NVMe SSD for a similar price these days.

For the speed of the SSD in the XSX, PCIe 3.0 is plenty fast enough. For the PS5 SSD, a PCIe 4.0 connector would be needed, but not the one in the XSX.

As such, you can compare with any NVMe SSD with both read and write speeds (both to give Microsoft the benefit of the doubt) over 2400 MB/s, which is the supposed speed of the XSX SSD.

Nothing new here. Uninstall games you dont play and reinstalled when ready. Wait until they get cheaper which is a garentee over time.
