- Why has the price of rice gone up so much?
--The mice got into the basket and ate a bunch of it.
- Well how much rice did you have?
--A lot, but it's all in one giant basket.
- Why only one basket?
--That's the cheapest way to store it and we didn't think ahead because we can just charge more now anyway.
- So you're saying it's actually the orange cat's fault for not protecting the basket?
--Yes, exactly...

You do realize that if these tariffs go through, WE’RE the ones who are gonna take the bullet. Console prices are gonna skyrocket. So instead of PS5 and Scarlett launching at $400-$500, now they’ll launch at around $600+. And not just consoles, accessories and physical media is going to rise in price as well. So we’re looking at $80-100 for a full retail AAA game in the US. Just raising games to those prices would have led to smaller profit margins or small losses for 3rd party publishers and developers, but now that loss is multiplied by a slower and/or shrinking console market. So those small profits become small losses and those small losses become big losses. And if you think the major 3rd party publishers will have it bad, what do you think is going to happen to the smaller publishers and indie devs who are struggling to make their money back trying to sell their games? Some of them may even go out of business, which means hundreds of people will lose their jobs.

So the Big Three lose a sizable portion of their audience, which will also negatively impact their 1st party software sales and service subscriptions.

Major 3rd party developers have a smaller and slower audience to sell their games to as development costs get higher and higher, which could lead to more anti-consumer practices in the future similar to loot boxes just to squeeze the remaining audience dry and make their money back.

Smaller publishers and indie developers will now be staring closure and bankruptcy right in the face and their employees will have a one way ticket to the unemployment line.

And gamers get screwed in the rear because now we have to pay even more money (which is hard to come by for some of us) to keep supporting and enjoying a hobby.

Nobody wins in this scenario.

This is just a big fat L for the video game industry.

Slave labor it is then.

I'm sure the exact same arguments were made when people were arguing over seceding from the union and getting rid of black slavery.

Btw, why would development costs get higher? How many games are developed in China? If anything, this will just make more and more games digital only versus raising prices by 20-40 a game. Just like how Switch games are lot of times digital if large, or download most the game due to publisher not wanting to fork out for a 26 or 32gb cart.

LOL, the fucking lengths Trump supporters will go to defend Donnie Dumb Dumb's terrible policies, these tariffs have NOTHING to do with working conditions in China, it's all about two world powers saber rattling 'cos how dare them dirty Chinese make products that we want!

I seriously hope this comes back to bite Donnie Dumb Dumb in the ass. Like I needed any more reason to hate Trump.

I love games just as much as others on this site, and I want to pay a little as possible without sacrifice of quality. But my priorities are country before console gaming. I do believe in freedom in consumer choice, but China as an economic power does have an advantage in pricing due to lower cost in material and wages whether it's unfair or not. It's not even a political issue because myself and others work in the steel industry so I'm all for leveling the economic playing field to help my family and other families financially survive. So more specifically, it's family before gaming. If you don't have or know families that can be affected by this, at least make it country before gaming. Bottom line, get your priorities straight. Let's not get blinded by creature comforts, and let's not get blinded by politics.

Funny, because that's EXACTLY what you're doing.

The US tariffs are only a sloppy/dirty way for the struggling US government to justify extra taxes to cover their astronomical financial liabilities. Chinese manufacturing won't take a hit, they have contracts going on for years, and after that, other options. Those who WILL take a hit are the companies who have business based in the US economy; they'll either lower their profit margins or pass the cost onto US consumers.

This.

A vast majority of the debt is not from war.

Also, the "mass murderer that happens to be in charge of our military" is actually trying to stay out of war because its not really popular among voters. So you got the media criticizing him for not going to war therefore colluding with enemies or whatever, while also pushing the narrative that he's gonna get us in another war which people feel is bad. Gotta love the mental gymnastics people play just to attack someone they hate regardless what is actually happening.

But our income tax and social security are used get loans from the federal reserve, which have been used to kill 1,000,000 middle easterners in just 20 years. Among other things.

The media are the worst propaganda just by how amazingly successful they are at making voters believe the worst lies and support the worst policies. This is what we got.  🤷‍‰️

Yeah, I understand. Its not a great kill number for the amount we're spending, other countries could kill significantly more while spending less. I agree our country is incredibly inefficient which is why I support tax cuts.

Any money generated from income or social security tax just goes in the same pot as all the other spending. That money doesn't really even exist as far as I'm aware, ponzi scheme and what not. Its like a $4 trillion in spending with $2 trillion revenue? Oh well... I try not to think about it.

I don't know if I even blame the media as much as I blame the people, or dare I say sheeple. I'm at the point where I don't even get angry about it and just say people deserve the government they get. Western civilization had a good run.

This is how people think when their primary concern is buying cheap tech.

Enjoy more expensive and weaker consoles!

How...?

Looks like Trump and Xi have reached a mutual understanding, at least for now.
Negotiations are continuing, no new tariffs will be added, and no current tariffs will be lifted. It’ll be interesting to see how this develops.

I'm glad for the tariffs, we have been getting screwed by China for several decades. Maybe the big 3 will make there damn systems in the usa,Japan or somewhere else. And let China know they can go straight to hell

Yeah, like it's just that easy. Snap of the finger and suddenly the big 3 can start manufacturing in the U.S. when all their infrastructure is in China -_-

IKR? Imagine believing this.

And imagine believing the tariffs have ANYTHING to do with working conditions in China.

I hope this kills Donnie Dumb Dumb's reelection bid. Whoever the Democratic nominee is needs to run this shit home in ads.

You know you don't have a leg to walk on when the companies affected by China's IP theft are saying they'd rather have their patents copied and every single economist says it's a bad idea.
