All companies do it. Sony did it right at the beginning of the generation against Microsoft for game sharing, Sony attacked Nintendo all gen before last for motion controls with Wii, only to adopt it themselves shortly after. It comes with the territory. 

Also its not really weird, it was inevitable to happen since Microsoft owns Minecraft and it's already on competing platforms, its only logical they they'd end up advertising each other at some point. 

They aren't afraid of anything, or at least they shouldn't be. They are just a selfish shitty company and always have been. They literally don't want to share an account with MS and Nintendo. They don't like them. They have held a grudge for Nintendo since the 90's and vice versa, and Xbox is their direct compeditor. This drives selfish behavior.

The cross play thing is annoying, but it's the Fortnite account fiasco that is the most fucked up. They have no right to block a third party account. This is arrogance of being the market leader, and I imagine they wouldn't dare do the same had theirs and MS's positions were swapped. Sony make good consoles with robust libraries, other than that they're a bad company with bad practices. They're like Apple in a lot of ways, locking you down with propriotery shit.

Of course there's the other theory that MS is directly trying to dismantle the one market that Sony rule, the home console market. MS know they will never beat Sony directly with hardware and software sales, so they push this play anywhere, crossplay thing. It sounds like good stuff for gamers, but not to Sony. They would love to sell their hardware as long as they can because it's currently working for them, where as Xbox isn't profitable for MS.

If people keep this up they'l cave. At least with the Fortnite account. But what Sony don't want is CoD, Battlefield and others going crossplay because the PS4 has a higher playerbase for those titles than the rest of the platforms combined.

Playstation 2 was a juggernaut, and yet PS3 struggled. This generation is coming to an end and Sony needs to be careful how they do things now, arrogance is their worst enemy. This cross-play thing is just bad optics at this point, especially after the Fortnite-fiasco

MIght be as you say (I don't know), but that all means only one thing: back then MS was the bad guy and Sony the good guy. Now they have reconsidered and Sony is bad and MS good. At all times we should not go after brand, but laud the companies for user-friendly stuff and condemn them for the bad stuff. Simple as that. The thing was different back at the start of the gen, with XBox family sharing. And rightfully so.

I doubt cross-play or not has strong effects on sales of hard- or software. It might have an influence on the brand image of the associated companies. But simple enough it is just a thing '4 the players'. Cross-play is good for players. You might not want to use that, but having the option is a plus. It is simply the companies promoting somethign they realize a portion f their customers has an interest in. And that is a good thing, companies listening to the customers. We should laud them for that, so they listen more often to us.

I don't think this will have a lasting effect on Sony. But hopefully it establishes cross-play as industry standard.

So first Fortnite now Minecraft......interesting........good for Nintendo and MS nothing wrong with what they are doing. Sony and EPIC are both A holes for the PS4 account locking situation. Might not be as big as some are making it but they are still A holes. But seeing these jabs about Sony being "arrogant" because of this....which I don't get how this makes them arrogant lol. Or the jabs at "for the players" now is pretty funny lol. People calling each other salty like come on folks geesh......

But the real question is.....at least for me anyway......since so many want this(so it seems anyway reading through this thread and the Fortnite thread) when will they make the BIG AAA games cross-play? I mean for me I do not play Minecraft or Fortnite so this does not have an impact on me. But I do play games like Battlefield, COD, Tekken, Mortal Kombat, Injustice, Far Cry, Assassins Creed, Destiny, Monster Hunter World, Soul Caliber 6 when it drops, RDR 2 when it drops, Heck GTA V online etc. Will those type of games be cross play? The big AAA games......that is what I want to know.
