Yes it is, but it would be a funny idea. There's no doubt that MS is using crossplay as a PR move against Sony, it's pretty much the only thing they can do to take a shot. Nintendo are being Nintendo.

All companies do it. Sony did it right at the beginning of the generation against Microsoft for game sharing, Sony attacked Nintendo all gen before last for motion controls with Wii, only to adopt it themselves shortly after. It comes with the territory. 

Also its not really weird, it was inevitable to happen since Microsoft owns Minecraft and it's already on competing platforms, its only logical they they'd end up advertising each other at some point.
