You're kidding JD as a series shifted over 40m on Wii alone with one instalment selling 10m and another selling 7m, the Switch userbase may be buying software but its not that type of software as the userbase of NS and Wii are very different. Wii was more new gamers (not casuals as casual is in regards to gaming habits not taste) where as NS is more people who are some what avid gamers.

I don't think the series is dead, considering that it must be really cheap to produce (the most expensive thing would be the songs, and even then they can say they are advertising them, so even that must be relatively cheap). A million for the Wii every year plus another million with the other platforms combined is a decent amount. The real question is how long is the series going to survive on the Wii, once that platform stops being profitable for Just Dance, that it's when that series should start to worry.

Yeah no it doesn't work like that. Licensing is very expensive. You really think the music industry would give Ubisoft a discount on songs instead of cashing in on the most popular dancing game?
Also developing 8 versions isn't cheap either.

Most versions only need some form of motion controll to work. The engine and control scheme is the same every year, with only the songs changing. They are pretty much using the same engine from the very beginning.

That's not exactly accurate. Actually, not accurate at all.
The framework/angine has changed at least a few times (first when they went multiplat and updated to a version of UbiArt, and second when they required something adaptable to mobile devices). The dances have to be designed, animated, implemented and tested for accurracy. New game modes and features have to be designed, engineered, and tested. In addition, the user interface changes annually as well. All in all, the core dev team involves about 20-30 people (design, art, scripting, server/online engineers, and game engineers), not including dance artits and motion capture models, QA, marketing, porting teams (which include additional design, engineering, and UI art), or production and licensing staff.
By the end of the full production cycle, hundreds of people will have been involved.
It's the second most successful franchise Ubisoft has ever had. When it comes to gaming consoles (home and handheld), Just Dance remains the biggest sleeper hit in history.
I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

Nah. Mostly it is compiling to the platform. More expensive would be optimizing, but JD doesn't push the hardware to the metal. So porting is probably pretty cheap. Two persons one week or so. Biggest problem is probably haggling with the platform holder.
