These projections always have the same flaw, they assume that the console space will remain stagnant, while everything else moves forward. That doesn't make sense. ALL tech will move forward at the same relative rate, it will simply be a question of what choices the consumers will make. In what form will they want their gaming entertainment and will consoles be able to offer them the solution they want? As long as the console business understands what gamers want, they will remain in the race. Sony for one seems to be doing a good job so far, the only time they have stumbled was during the PS3 era, they made some weak choices there but they learned from it and recovered their position.

I love it when people call themselves visionaries, call the demise of console gaming and predict that in 20 years a 200$ laptop on its current format will exist. Sorry OP but your ideas have soooo many flaws.

He is not being racist or prejudice at all I think. What he is saying I believe is that there will always be demand for an alternative console and in this case one that has gathered a following by western centric shooter fans such as that Xbox has acheived.

The gaming comunity is something else. I get what the OP is saying. It blows my mind that people honestly think PC, Consoles, Laptops, Tablets, Handhelds, and Phones arn't competing with each other. Then we are also going to say that iOS, Android, Windows, and PlayStation OS are not competing as well. Funny stuff happens on gaming forums.

All hardware and all OS's are competeing with each other. Maybe owning a Linux PC and a Blackberry is not your deal, but they are competeing for a place in peoples homes. PS4 Pro and a 3G Vita is not the most popular PC/Phone combo in the world, but it is happening, even if it is only one person. There are people I know that don't own a Tablet, Laptop, or PC, they do everything on their phone and have either a Console or Streaming box.

Everything in the market competes. Just because one things is 0.3% of the market today doesn't mean it won't be 60% of the market in 20 years. Hell the market leading OS and hardware 20 years from now may come from a company that isn't even started yet. It is just extreamly blood boiling to see people act like things are never gonna change, and the world is just the way it is, always has been, always will be. To everyone that thinks nothing is ever going to change, and the current leaders will never fall, please go and read some history.

I don't see mobile device completely replacing Windows, especially for avid gamers and business environments. Atleast not in 20 years.

I mean given PCs aren't compact devices they will generally be the place for cutting edge specs. There is still plenty of demand for laptops and tablets running Windows. People thought Linux would replace Windows but it hasn't happened, Valve couldn't even make it a relevant gaming platform.

In a nutshell, competing devices have a long way to go to kill WIndows and MS will work to keep Windows relevant. I'll be surprised if Xbox doesn't turn into a Windows device at some point.

What do you think the PS4 Pro is for? We will get regular hardware upgrades from now on and BC. PS4 consoles cost now as much as Graphicscards on PC who are giving barley more performance, i dont see how it isnt competive?

Most people I know want their couche gaming machine to be seperate from their personal Laptop.
