Forums - Nintendo - Woolly World on track to outsell Tropical Freeze

I think that because people are informed that DKCT is more "hardcore" game in terms of difficulty, so definitely not a game for everyone, also game was launched only few years after previous game and on smaller instal base in not exactly best time for launch (February).

Yoshi Woolly World on other hand is game that can be played by everyone (has Mellow mood), visually looks way more attractive (one of the best looking Wii U games), launched on bigger instal base and in Q4 at biggest market.

Personaly, best 2D Wii U game.

"Woolly World on track to outsell Tropical Freeze"

Thats not a good thing ; _ ;
Tropical freeze deserves so much more.

I wouldn't really take VGChartz as gospel as a lot of Wii U software sales are heavily overtracked.

Tropical Freeze is the second game in a series and I think that a lot of people had their fill with DKCR on the Wii. Tropical Freeze doesn't really do anything to stand out as an HD game, and so there's really no reason for a lot of fans to come back to DKCR on the Wii U unless you are a big fan of the gameplay. It would be different if they did something really compelling with the gamepad.

I think that it's almost the same situation with NSMBU. If I owned the Wii version of New Super Mario Bros, I would feel absolutely no desire to buy it again for the Wii U since it's basically just a slight upgrade to 2D graphics that I felt already looked good on the Wii. I think that if it wasn't for the mandatory Wii U bundle and the fact that it was basically the only Mario game available for the first year on the Wii U, I think NSMBU would have been an unsuccessful sequel for the same reasons as Tropical Freeze.

Yoshi's Woolly World, however, is a game that really stands out in HD and while it doesn't really change the gameplay of previous Yoshi games it does so much cool stuff with the yarn aesthetic that people are still excited. When you combine the cute factor, a very creative Amiibo, and a stunning graphical art-style people are going to be excited to buy the game just to see some of those creative visual implementations of the yarn aesthetic. When I hear about Velcro conveyor belts being used in one of the levels, I just want to buy Woolly World so I can immerse myself in that environment!

That´s a pretty good overview. DKTF seemed more of the same as DKCR just with HD fur and spatial barrel jumps. I think during launch there were complaints of long loading times. NSMBU did use the Gamepad contrary to TF, although it was minimal, had some additional content in the form of challenges and it's Mario. YoshiWW meshes that franchise with Epic Yarn so well, so even with similarities it does create new character into the title.

You say tomato, I say tomato

"¡Viva la Ñ!"

Well I bought DKtf fantastic game, but after that and Rayman Legends Ive kinda had my fill with 2D platformers. I never owned a wii though so I haven't played a Donkey Kong game since Donkey Kong 64.

I may pick yoshi up, just not sure if it's worth it.

That is tragic, in a way. DKCTF is a marvellous game.

I think Tropical Freeze was really affected by the fact that it wasn't what people wanted from Retro.

That doesn't change the end result. Such a big difference can't be put down to promotion alone.

*Takes a look at Splatoon sales*

I disagree haha

Promotion isn't the only reason for Splatoon's success. The game has plenty to sell itself on already; its highly accessible, it fills a vacant niche on the console, and its word of mouth is very positive.

Sure, it's a great game! But I think it goes to show that when Nintendo really puts money into marketing, good things happen.

Interesting, I wonder why Tropical Freeze underperformed so much, it's a great game that deserves to sell much more than it has

Because people were salty about it not being Metroid, however I still think Tropical freeze will get more sales than a Metroid game would have.

Actually woolly world is a game where Amiibo is very well implemented. I'm not talking about the yarn double Yoshi, but the huge number of Amiibo skins the game supports. With Amiibo being so popular and having a decent presence in the game, its surely a contributing factor.
