Forums - Sales - Koei Tecmo confirms Hyrule Warriors has shipped 1m copies

Well deserved and a great game. I doubt we will see a sequel but if we do lets hope for online Co op. Playing local 2 player was awful, game slows down, resolution drops dramatically and game eventually crashes...

No a 1000 times. I don't think anyone should have to explain something this simple but, same game with different character is still the same game.

... so you don't have any counter argument, you just gonna hold your hands to your ears and say ''no! no! no! no!''. I also would like to point at Zombie U the big third party exclusive for the wii U at launch, still crawling to the million mark, it did so bad, Ubisoft pretty much stopped supporting the wii U, and by the way that too is better rated than hyrule warrior.

For me to have a counter argument, you need to have an argument in the first place. It makes no sense whatsoever to say things like "AC and Cod would have sold more with mario/zelda slapped on them". And are you seriously saying that 1 million+ is bad for a low budget new IP that is also a launch title?

First what game are you talking about ''And are you seriously saying that 1 million+ is bad for a low budget new IP that is also a launch title?'' Because zombi U isns't at 1million + and was far from having a low budget, and hyrule warrior which we know is above 1 million isn't a launch title. So you got me confuse here.

To tell you the truth I actually bought my wii u for project cars(I know shocker I still have it preordwered too after it got delayed)

zombi u is the million seller (will be soon enough) and is low budget. ubisoft's mismanagement is irrelevant, if we disconsider the cost for changing killer freaks into zombi u, it's low budget.

soo enough lol, it's been crawling since 2013 and still asen't reach 1million, so your 1 million+ was wrong, plus last time Ubisoft talked about that game they said it wasn't profitable and there was no plans for the sequel so your statement about it being cheap is wrong also. I'm going to stop here before a mod get ban hammer excited and it's clear you are just arguing just for the sake of argue since you keep bringing missinformation in the discussion and asen't brought a single counter argument to my original point which was third parties need to put Nintendo related ips in their games, in a prominent way of course, if they ever expect to sell well.

Bet reminder: I bet with Tboned51 that Splatoon won't reach the 1 million shipped mark by the end of 2015. I win if he loses and I lose if I lost.

Third party games can sell without a Nintendo IP if they are desirable enough, as we saw with games like Monster Hunter Tri, Resident Evil 4, Sonic Colours, and Goldeneye 007 on Wii. Problem is, nearly all the third party games on Wii U are either low priority ports, or just lack broad appeal.

I'd argue its the Wii U lacks broad appeal, the 3rd party software support was solid. Its obvious the people buying Wii U are primarily 1st party Nintendo fans. People who really want 3rd party games are buying Xbox or Playstation.

You ignore the most obvious reason OG Wii had multiple 3rd party million sellers. The OG Wii sold significantly better so it sold more software. If the CoD games on Wii U struggle to break 300K then there is little hope for most developers. They will instead focus on Xbox and Playstation.

Anyhow, Hyrule Warriors demonstrates Wii U owners will buy a game if it simply uses a Nintendo IP. 3rd party games that don't use a Nintendo IP actually need to great and still struggle to achieve numbers like Hyrule Warriors.

There really haven't been enough third party games with actual appeal to prove they wouldn't sell on Wii U; ZombiU/Wonderful 101/Bayonetta are niche, Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate was a port of a port of a 3 year old game, AAA multiplats were either late, sloppy ports, or both.

Although now that I look at the best sellers list, LEGO City Undercover isn't a Nintendo franchise, and that has sold pretty well; 900k at present not counting digital.

All of those games have costumes of Nintendo characters, I believe. Although I don't recall anything like that in SLW.

Not really comparable to Hyrule Warriors though, since the main focus in that game was the Zelda characters. They weren't just add-ons or easter eggs.

Pardon my late response...

If CoD on Wii U struggles to achieve 300K then there simply isn't much of a reason to put multiplat core games on Wii U. Maybe you'll argue those were sloppy ports but the masses don't know that and the Wii ports were worse due to technical limitations.

Exclusive 3rd party Wii U games done okay but that's simply because people don't have other options. If Bayonetta 2 was on PS4 and X1 as well the Wii U version would have sold a fraction.

Why is this even a debate? The Wii U is selling poorly, core gamers probably felt burned on OG Wii, so that audience flocked to X1 and PS4 in record numbers.

Gamers today read up on which is the better version of a game. And lateness has even more of an impact.

LEGO City is about the only mainstream exclusive (that's not a Nintendo property) of solid quality, and it sold pretty well.

Third parties could have sold better on Wii U; for the most part, they fumbled the opportunity to do so with either late and/or bad games.
