Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo's 2015 Release Schedule (SMTxFE mentioned + Yoshi 1st Half)

I really am starting to wonder if some games may be made available for the Wii U and also the Nintendo Fusion/4DS (whatever it's called) in 2016.

The architectures should be similar as Iwata has said he wanted future platforms to "absorb" the Wii U architecture, that likely means a similar GPU design philosophy from AMD, just one based on mobile computing, in the same way the Tegra K1 is a Kepler based GPU for tablets/phones.

Maybe some games could be shared by the two platforms before Nintendo fully embraces Fusion (home and portable) as their future.

That might be why they're so hush on SMT x Fire Emblem, lets face it, that game probably would sell a lot more as a portable game, especially in Japan. But they already promised it for Wii U too. So if its easy to port it, why not make it for both systems?

Things like Hyrule Warriors 2 and perhaps Luigi's Mansion 3 might also fit into the same mold. It would help these games sell better, fill out the 4DS/Fusion launch which is make or break for Nintendo's future, while still giving Wii U owners who don't have the portable more games to play.

And third parties, mainly eShop titles

The GPU is one thing, but Wii U is already suffering from retaining the PowerPC 750 CPU architecture they've used since the Gamecube. Dragging it out for a fourth generation in a row would be a monumental misstep.

They will almost definitely use an ARM CPU next time out IMO, but perhaps there could be design considerations made and dev tool features specifically aimed at making easier porting between Wii U and their future platform(s).

I mean developers dealt with porting between the PS3 and 360 just fine, and those two architectures were miles apart, so I mean Nintendo could do this for a handful of games I'm sure for example for Tecmo-Koei or a company like that that's used to working on varying different hardware, it would be no big deal if Nintendo asked them to do it for Hyrule Warriors 2 (for example).

Well, at least now we know for sure it's not dead (never thought it was anyway). But the TBD makes it seem like it's really unlikely to come this year

PS3 did suffer somewhat from that disparity in architecture though; many early multiplatform games looked and ran like crap on PS3. Heck, Wii U is closer to 360 in terms of architecture than PS3 is, didn't stop devs making sloppy Wii U ports, or skipping the system altogether.

It would be cool if they could do as you said, but Wii U's vintage CPU architecture may present an obstacle. That said, I'm not familiar with how easy it is to port between ARM and PPC750, so maybe it can be managed relatively painlessly with the proper tools.

I just sincerely hope that from here on out, they dump PPC750. It's already cost them dearly.

Well, it's good to know that SMTxFE is not dead!

What in the world warrants Kirby being at least 5 months late in Europe?

After Smash Wii U launched without a hitch last year, I firmly believe that no holiday titles will be delayed this year. They keep drilling it into our heads that they're all coming out in 2015, so for now I'll take it as the truth.

Plus, wasn't TF just delayed to avoid a more noticeable drought?

Yes, and that's what I'm worried could happen again if 2016 gets off to a dry start.

Good point. I guess we'll see at E3 if they have enough titles planned in advance.
