Forums - Sales - The impact of amiibo on sales?

I think theyll be popular. If the price is right, then people who doesnt even own a WiiU yet could pick up a few. They look pretty cool:)
The fact that they can be used in many different games is also an awesome idea.

I think this is "good" for the competition. Nintendo are aiming for little children , but when they get older the only thing they want is a PS4 or XOne.

I don't really see how amiibo is aimed at just children. The Smash crowd is pretty old these days, and they said they eventually plan to have an amiibo for every Smash character. That spans a lot of genres and age groups.

Bonus: They claim they can make amiibos of virtually any size they want. If they can shrink it down a little more and make them into keychain/phone accessories they can sell them as functional and fashionable too.

That's what I'm looking forward to. I'd like to add Donkey, Diddy, Cranky, Funky, and Dixie Kong to my "Mon"-keys!

But seriously, keychain amiibo would be very appealing to a lot of adults. Some parents might like them for their children because they'd be less likely to be lost. Makes using your amiibo at a friends house or wherever much more simple. I hope they do it.

For a Skylanders/Infinity type price point, they're probably making nearly as much half the profit as they would selling a new game at full retail. That's a good thing though -- it means a higher amount of the new revenue is profit. And actually if people end up buying more amiibo than games, it doesn't work out to bad because Nintendo could earn higher profits even on a smaller revenue base.

I predict NX launches in 2017 - not 2016

That would be genius and make too much sense. I haven't considered getting any yet, but I'd impulse buy a few amiibo keychains before I could even blink.

I apologize for putting words in your mouth.

Still, they are trying to directly compete in games, but they don't have the support, so they pick their battles. Also, since the amiibo is cross game/genre, how could it really hurt any title?

I fully expect more Mario titles to fill sports gaps, and Splattoon seems to be the Nintendo take on COD. Bayonetta is probably the best character action game. Smash is their fighter. No one competes in platformers. X and FExSMT cover JRPGs. Zelda hits action and adventure. They're also rocking the indie scene pretty hard, Shovel Knight was amazing. I don't really see Nintendo giving up on a lot of genres on Wii U.

I do think they missed out on cashing in on the World Cup by not going with a new Mario Strikers for Wii U instead of 3DS Mario Golf.

Were supposed to take you seriously with jokes like that ? i get you would be blinded and hopefull about anything even half assed from ninty but get real.

Releasing one Smash Metroid or Zelda a gen is not called competing. They need constant flow and variety, wiiu shows just how bad they are at that.  They missed the whole FPS console rise, Splattoon is only a deacade and a half to late.

What's a better character action game? DMC3 possibly. We know Bayonetta two is already better than the first by a longshot thanks to hands on time with it. It's made by the guys who litereally created the genre.

Yes, the lack of first party FPS really killed them last generation...

I also happen to like the longevity of Smash. I felll out of fighting games because they repackage a lot of sh*t that could easily be patches and add a word to the title. Forgive me if I wouldn't be jumping for joy for a Super Duper Smash Bros. Hyper the World: The Arcade Edition.

They could just focus on building the proper base and aquiring third parties to make the titles they need. Nintendo has also been working hard to put out Second party titles.

One game and you call it it the be end all of the genre, lol as i said no matter what you are blind.

Lack of FPS really helping them now aint it.  How long did it take for PS4 to out sael wiiu ?

Acquiring 3rd parties? more blind hopes from you about ninty, can you not be realistic about things.

Yes, first party FPSs are the secret to Playstation's success, not multiplats that Nintendo has no control over. It also has nothing to do with XB1 shooting both of its feet with shotgun blasts before the sales race started. Nope.

What's blind hope about a multi-billion dollar company buying up a smaller third party to acquire the manpower needed to put out more games?

Wow, the thread is derailing.

Anyway, here's my take: did vita being acessory for ps4 helped it? No.
So, no, the figurine will not help to push wiiu sales, but can be a bussiness in itself. You can bet that a lot of people will buy it without realizing that you can interact with it in your nintendo machine too.

"Hardware design isn’t about making the most powerful thing you can.
Today most hardware design is left to other companies, but when you make hardware without taking into account the needs of the eventual software developers, you end up with bloated hardware full of pointless excess. From the outset one must consider design from both a hardware and software perspective."

I don't think the vita situation is analogous at all.
