Forums - Sales - The impact of amiibo on sales?

Wow, the thread is derailing.

Anyway, here's my take: did vita being acessory for ps4 helped it? No.
So, no, the figurine will not help to push wiiu sales, but can be a bussiness in itself. You can bet that a lot of people will buy it without realizing that you can interact with it in your nintendo machine too.

I don't think the vita situation is analogous at all.

Really?

Vita is not vital(lol) for the enjoyment of PS4

WiiU is not vital for the enjoyment of Amiibos(will be a base for 3ds too)

Ps4 came when vita was alreadly very low

Amiibo will came when Wiiu will be pretty low

Psvita as acessory was a aftertough

Amiibos is a aftertough

Sony really tried to convience that psvita as acessory could be pretty cool(but we know that is not enough to justify a brand new purchase of >100USD)

Nintendo really want to convince that amiibo can be a game changer experience(but we know that is not enough to justify a brand new purchase of >200USD).

The most similar situation: PS4 in no way put a end to the biggers problems with Psvita, neither amiibo with WiiU.

I see that the main objective with PS4 was not push PSVita, and nintendo said that amiibo was a way to push WiiU, but is anyone convinced by that declaration?

If you want to avoid pay-to-win you have to avoid Amiibo and many people will just do that.

Except its not pay to win...like at all. What exactly are you talking about?

Also, the Vita/Amiibo comparison is insanely stupid. They aren't even close to comparible...

Because amiibos are pay to win... Yeah...

You actually know what they do, right?

They dont give you an ingame advantage, but something like alternative skins or NPCs in the case of Smash Bros.

Thats not pay to win at all.

I would argue that the Amiibo's will have an effect on Wii U sales. How much? Too hard to say! I don't understand the vita comparison with the amiibo's. Th vita as an accessory to the ps4 didn't help sales because: 1. The price point as an accessory 2. Outside the close gaming community - the feature wasn't advertised heavily.

The Amiibo's have many things going for it!

1. Price point

2. shelf space

3. character brand

4. accompanied with a massive game in super smash bros

5.  A strong marketing by Nintendo (almost a given at this point)

6. The wide appeal of toys

Just ignore him. He has been spouting the same nonsense narrative since the announcement of amiibo's. We all know his true intentions

Yeah, no. Vita offers nothing of value to PS4 games. The amiibo offers bonuses to Wii U games.

3DS amiibo support will not be out for a while, and if it flops may not come out ever.

The amiibo isn't an afterthought, it was built into the system from the beginning, with the NFC device being something they advertised prior to the Wii U release and actually planned to have at the launch. Rayman was supposed to be a launch window title that took advantage of it, as seen by previews using amiibos.

The vita was pitched as an overpriced handheld console that had almost no games, still lacks games, and if Sony's new stance is anything to go by, won't have many new games. The amiibo is pitched as an enhancement to the Wii U that caters to  a market that's got massive consumer interest and that's starting to come out in droves.

The Wii U has actually been on the up turn since MK8 with higher baseline sales, better public opinion, a decent library, and arguably the most desired series in the franchise ahead of it. It's still got the single-player Mario type game, Smash, Zelda U, Star Fox, and Metroid still to come, aka every major franchise outside of Mario Kart and NSMB. Won't even bring up the pleasant surprise titles.

So no, it's not even remotely comparable.

Sorry, but you guys are really taking for granted that nintendo will got a lot of things rigth for amiibo, like advertsing, price and usuability.

Think about the use of amiibo in smash bros: you will come over at a friend's house and say: hey, "let the amiibos batle" instead of playing the game yourself? Its a AI controlled character, and how many times was fun too see one of those battling?

What im trying to say is that people will buy amiibo and thats all, they will not think: wow, i'm really missing some cool features that totally justify a US$300 purchase.

Amiibo was never going to be launched in 2013, even if the Wii U was doing well. All Nintendo is has have plans not go the way it did and sadly it performed very poorly. Amiibo will most likely do well because they are extremly popular by the millions of children and adults and Nintendo will make support with a huge library of games. 5 being announced as well as support for 3DS.

It's a bit more than a money maker to me, it's a fantastic idea that just so happens to be one of the most biggest money makers around due to popularity. If it goes well for Nintendo then it's profits all around because they bought on the idea before other console companies do.
