I completely agree with you, except that the blue ocean is not gone and will never be gone. And I also don't agree that Nintendo should focus on the 'core' market any more than they already have tried as that has backfired completely. So I guess looking at it, when I say I agree completely I mean I disagree completely.

.. when the hell have they focused on the core market ??? was it their endless mario mario spinoffs mario sports mario partys and paltformers that are marioish ???

I'm sorry, I was under the impression that you paid attention to the videogame industry and as such had a rudimentary grasp of how this generation started. Since you don't, I suggest using the wonders of Google and search for how Nintendo was positioning the Wii U before and at launch. Nintendo's tag line back then was that the Wii U would be a deeper wider experience than the Wii, and what they meant by that was that they had designed a machine that would carry over momentum from the Wii and also appeal to the core market (that is what 'a deeper experience' meant). The direct result you can easily verify by looking up the games available at launch for the Wii U.

Nintendo launched without a single of these Mario spinoff games you pretend is dominating the platform, instead it was flodded with third party 'core' games that predictably were as shit as third party games usually are. This was calculated move from Nintendo, aimed to let third parties take advantage of the new platform and the payoff was that people didn't buy that shit, and didn't want the Wii U either once they realized there wasn't much Nintendo software to get for it. It was stupid to try to go after the core market and they are still trying to recover from it.

Trying to appeal to the core market is not a good idea for Nintendo, what the hell could they possibly stand to gain from it? The 'core' crowd moves in a herd and they have no insentive to move to Nintendo. Nintendo's own software shits up and down anything any thrid party has ever created both in sales and revenue so it would be absolutely retarded to abandon that to chase a hostile market. What Nintendo shoudl do is deliver their particular flavor of gaming and try to expend it to as many people as they can, blue ocean and yes 'core' gamers if they can be bothered to stoop down to the baby level of gaming that puts emphasis on fun. What they shouldn't do, and I mena ABSOLUTELY MUST NOT DO, is throw their hat in with the turdfactory that is know as the 'AAA' game producers and try to squeeze out marketshare from the people who goes after that kind of experience. There is no way they can win with that strategy. No way.

Everything avalaible on U launch.. is what exactly, PS3/360 ports some old and lacking dlc ? awesome core support there.

Mario was a launch title and bundled as was Ninty land.  If they wanted core they would have launched with a Metrois or zelda.

There is no way they are winning with whatever strategy they are using now, no way.  God forbid they made a legit console aimed at the core and put up the franchises needed to bring them in.  Underpowered console with a gimmick controller and 1st party offering that is Mario reliant and platformer and old gen 3rd party ports is not core support.  Zombie was the only legit core game for the u.

If it turns out like Skylanders or Infinity dang it will be huge. Plus remember there's the Nintendo magic which grants it sales so it'd be like Skylanders times 20 if it really works out

I think it will be a lot bigger, specially with the 3DS also having those.

It wont improve hardware sales, but the profit will be huge.

Maybe the profit could make up for Wii U lagging, especially since Wii U will pick up for the next few years

XBOX ONE/Wii U/3DS/PC

Thanks for all the great memories!

Again: Nintendo made a play for the shooter audience by trying to make a machine that would appeal to third parties. Power to port  games easy, support for modern enginges, and trying to establish relationships with third parties. The audience you are talking about would not have bought a Wii U for a Metroid or Zelda game. Those games were on the Wii and the core whined their asses off about both franchises and bought Madden and COD instead.

Making a console aimed at the core is exac tly what they did, and it has failed them spectaularily. They are just now returning to  something approaching respectability once they brought out the kind of software that their customers want. I am sure they would love to have ports of all the thrid party games that is being released for other platforms, but I hope they have realized once and for all that they need to do what they are good at: building hardware that supports their own vision of gaming and putting relentless focus on quality and fun experiences. The core is a tiny, tiny fraction of the video gaming comuinty and to chase those customers is folly. They are married to other consoles and experiences, love to shit on Nintendo any chance they get, pretend to like Nintendo bould always have an excuse for why there's not excatly the game they wanted yet so they don't have to buy the console (see the "mature looking Zelda" nonsense for reference).

What Nintendo need to do, starting a year ago is to go hard after the 'Wii audience' and sell them on upgrading from the Wii. Don't give me the hivemind "moved on to mobile" BS, markets are constantly moving , there's no reason why the 'casuals' wouldn't move to the  Wii U if the software and experiences  are enticicing enough.  Something like Amiibo is EXACTLY what they need to do, no matter what a handfull of entiled 'hardcore gamers' whine about on the internet.
