Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Nintendo needs more western studios and more original western IPs to appeal to the west.

Bayonetta 2 will most likely go the way that Infamous Second Son did. Which is pretty good.

It's going to sell like W101, dude.

Did you think of that yourself or did you need help?

Nintendo is pretty much the most Japanese company in the whole industry. According to analysts Nintendo not only needs more western developers but also more western management.

I've heard, that Stringer has no job currently.

Brings a tear to my eye that a new generation of gamers are talking about the same shit we did back in the n64 days.

At least back in those days we had Rare, who had the power to make whatever the hell it wanted and churned out hit after hit, and NOA wasn't the complete joke it is now. Reggie is a glorified cheerleader.

Nintendo lost track of what made them successful in the first place. Where is my Duck Hunt U, huh. I like to gamble, where is my Borgata Casino HD. Where is my exclusive Forza, huh Nintendo. I should be CEO, nah. I should have Reggie's job though.

I don't know that Nintendo needs purchase western studios or IP. In the 80s and 90s Japanese developers made games all the time that did well internationally.

And by "more western IPs", I'm just going to assume you mean "games with grim, bad ass male heroes who shoot things with guns".

I don't think Kratos shoots things. Besides variety is better than having plumbers and chimpanzees jumping up and down in a cartoon world.

Or Sly. Or Jak. InFAmous uses super powers. Drake isn't "grim." Sackboy isn't bad ass, etc.

So..............you're implying that Nintendo needs to be Sony? And have Sony-like franchises? I'm good.

You know what Nintendo needs? To produce MORE games for the Wii U. Both form their existing franchises, and have some of the MANY developers (including several "western" ones) already under their belt, cooking up some new IPs *cough*Retro*cough*. That's what they need. They don't need to try and emulate Sony. OR Microsoft. Or anyone else.

@Ucell

No, Kratos doesn't shoot things. He just slices the bloody shit out of them, and the main problem I have with the God of War series, quite frankly, beyond the fact that I just find the gameplay kinda generic and repetitive, is that Kratos himself, as a character, is SO over-the-top ridiculously manly/macho, that it's painful to watch. He's SO "badass", that it kind of just becomes a parody of itself. There's a big difference between a "badass" hero (Batman), and a character so retarded-"bad", that he comes off as comical (Lobo). Kratos is the second one.

No, it's not. Because Bayonetta is already an established franchise, people know about it, people like it, and people want it. W101 is a great game, from what I played, but it was a total unknown, and got ZERO advertising or real promotion in NA or EU. Which is a damn shame. Nintendo has been outright stupid when it comes to it's handling of Wii U advertising. They're doing better with MK8, but they should be doing that with EVERY big, and even medium, release Wii U has. Having a "demo reel" commercial that shows off several games, including W101, would be a great idea. But they haven't fuckin' done it.

Having said that though, there is no chance in hell B2 sells on par or worse tha W101. It'll sell a few hundred thousand, easy, maybe even over half a million. Who knows? If Nintendo actually promotes it, and bothers having a commercial for it, like the original game had? It could do a million.

But beyond that, what is the point of saying Nintendo needs new IPs, but then acting like something that is already pre-established like B2 is going to flop? If the implication is that any new IPs from Nintendo, or new TO Nintendo, are going to flop.....and that these games that appeal to "western gamers", might well flop on Wii U....then what is the point of saying they need more of them? I'm just saying, that's a contradictory and non-constructive attitude to take.

Bayonetta 2 will do respectable numbers. I myself will have my Gamestop preorder by next month. The game looks gorgeous.

Maybe, but Sony's greatest asset is Japan Studio, not a "Western" studio.

Say what?

Japan Studio has been the least important studio for years, but I'd like to know why you think they're the greatest asset?
