Well the famous case for nintendo fans in japan is "at this rate it will take x years to catch up."

similarly, at this rate it will take the wii u 9.5 years to catch GC. Let that sink in. Also, MK and Smash wont move consoles nearly as much as peope are hoping. Retailers will be the limiting factor there. Even if Wii U recieves unprecedented demand it wont sell as much as people want. Nintendo is manufacturing units by the sales they have been having in past sales trends. Producing more to not sell is a quick way to loose lots of money. Wii U will have about 11.5m at years end and this is probably its peak year

Who cares about it passing the gamecube or not? I have one thats enough for me to know. Give me MarioKart Smash real 3D mario and Zelda. Also metroid and especially X and I will be happy.

Numbers dont mean shit. What exactly is the Wii's 100 telling us? Its def not telling us how many gamers bought the Wii. PS2's 150m also does not tell us that 150m different people bought a PS2 because 90% of the fats died due to of disk read errors and so people like me and 20+ of my friends bought a slim because what do you do with 20 jrpgs etc but no system? I dont even know a single person that owns a fat PS2 thats still working.

Third party does not care about install base on Nintendo platforms so no matter if the Wiiu would have 50 or 20 million users it will not make alot of a difference and Nintendo will make the games anyway. I am actually pretty glad that Nintendo might "lose" 80% of its userbase because I dont want mainstreamers in my console community.
Just look at what the ps360 and the western devs with their mainstream cancer did to the industry and how all that shovelware shit made it almost impossible to find a good game on Wii when you are a person thats not up to date with what games are coming to the system etc. The more niche a console is the better.

Here you have one( I know you dont know me but I had to say it)

No. IMO the WiiU is now aiming for 15 Million LTD :(.

In the wilderness we go alone with our new knowledge and strength.

I made a thread about this on April Fool's Day suggesting the Wii U has a good shot, but people thought I was joking, so not much came of it.

Basically, by this point in its life, the only big game left for the GameCube was Mario Kart, and arguably the Console Pokemon RPG's. The Wii U still has Mario Kart 8, Animal Crossing 5, Super Smash Bros 4, Zelda U, and likely more (I expect at least one more BIG surprise game from Nintendo this gen, much like DKCR and Wii Party were for last gen's Wii. The GameCube had no such game, since Twilight Princess was made into a Wii title). Furthermore, the Wii U will likely be sold up through 2018, giving it an extra year to sell compared to the GameCube. Factor in the greater potential for price dropping (the GameCube was only $150 by the start of 2003, compared to the $300 Wii U), and I say the Wii U has a shot.

Plus, the GameCube had a major disadvantage after 2004: competing with both the GBA and DS for games from Nintendo. The next Nintendo handheld will likely not be released until 2016 or later, meaning Nintendo won't be caught trying to develop for three/four platforms at once.

It's a stuggle sure, but i think it has a shot. Not because i have faith in the Wii U, but because I think it will just stick around forever.

If anything I think Nintendo might launch last, I certainly don't see them pulling an early "same specs as the gen that's ending" move like they did this time.

GameCube sales I WANT to say had a HUGE spike at the $99 price range. Some huge sale even getting it to chart when the Wii and PS3 were out.

I could see Wii U just sitting in the 99-150 price range for years, and selling to families essentially as the cheapest Skylanders/Disney Infinite box.  The fact that the PS3 could leg it out for so long more or less shows purchasing patterns have changed somewhat.

Of course that's assuming they can get it that cheap, since they bundled it with an expensive controller whose defining feature doesn't seem to be used for much of... anything...

It's a long shot though for sure.

bolded: are you in 2006 or something?

I don't follow, perhaps i should of been more clear.   I don't see them releasing another system like the Wii U.   That is a game, who multiplatform wise is looking for special ports, or to get copies of Xbone/PS4 games, instead of fighting straight up vs the next generation systems.

Honestly ask me last year I would've said "Yeah WiiU will hit 30m" , but now that the Ps4 and xbone both did 1mill in under a day I'm like Yeah no Wii U has no market share =.

PSn - greencactaur
Nintendo Switch FC - SW - 5152 - 6393 - 5140 Please feel free to add me :)

The Wii U has sold 6 million consoles in 18 months. That averages 333,333 consoles per month. Which is 1 million consoles every 3 months. Which is 4 million per year. The Gamecube sold about 22 million. If the Wii U gets support until late 2018, then it will most likely beat the GC.

Yes, cuz I want it to. Sometimes I feel like Homer Simpson telling his brain to shut up though.

I think it can pull it off if there are enough dual consoles buyers this gen. Since it doesn't have a paid service like the other 2 I could see it being a more like second choice for those trying to do it slightly more on budget, that and with all those wii's and wii motes out there it would be an easy upgrade. once the software and price become compelling enough.

While averaging it out across the time on the market would suggest this, the Wii U sales were s ofront loaded (over 3 million of those were in the first 3 months weren't they?).

However I still think comparing the GC and Wii U as if they are identical propositions is misguided and the Wii U still has a chance to shift more units than most currently predict, but only time will tell. No point telling people they're crazy for their predictions, I remember when Wii U was going to massacre Vita sales as little as 12 months ago yet it still hasn't overtaken it.
