Do you still think WiiU can beat Gamecube lifetime? If so why?

I made a thread about this on April Fool's Day suggesting the Wii U has a good shot, but people thought I was joking, so not much came of it.

Basically, by this point in its life, the only big game left for the GameCube was Mario Kart, and arguably the Console Pokemon RPG's. The Wii U still has Mario Kart 8, Animal Crossing 5, Super Smash Bros 4, Zelda U, and likely more (I expect at least one more BIG surprise game from Nintendo this gen, much like DKCR and Wii Party were for last gen's Wii. The GameCube had no such game, since Twilight Princess was made into a Wii title). Furthermore, the Wii U will likely be sold up through 2018, giving it an extra year to sell compared to the GameCube. Factor in the greater potential for price dropping (the GameCube was only $150 by the start of 2003, compared to the $300 Wii U), and I say the Wii U has a shot.

Plus, the GameCube had a major disadvantage after 2004: competing with both the GBA and DS for games from Nintendo. The next Nintendo handheld will likely not be released until 2016 or later, meaning Nintendo won't be caught trying to develop for three/four platforms at once.
