When is Nintendo going to surrender?

2015 probably, with the r... 28 8.31%

2018 once their next console flops! 37 10.98%

Never 255 75.67%

Tomorrow...maybe. 17 5.04%

Total:337

95% of Nintendo's problems are self inflicted, they need to look in the mirror, and digging up a 17 year old print ad is kinda lame "proof", lol.

If Sony or MS made a Barney-purple console with Fisher Price aesthetics and toon-shaded Halo or Uncharted ... a lot of people would call them "kiddie" too. Beyond, who's to say Nintendo doesn't want that image? They go out of their way to market and tailor their products to kids before other demographics in many instances.

You say "even" during the Wii era there was negative backlash.  Actually, that's all there was, both in the ramp up to launch and after it had taken the world by storm.  You see, no matter what it does, Nintendo can never "win," even when they're "printing money."  It really just has to do with the cynical nature of the internet and the tendency to tear down established monoliths of gaming (or any industry).

To answer your question:  Nintendo will not and should not give up.  They should be true to themselves and their vision and continue working on ways to disrupt the normal flow of entertainment.  Thankfully, their pockets are large enough to keep them going, despite the pitchforks and flaming crosses the fanboys carry.

I'm also of they idea that Nintendo should keep on going but if they keep going like this I don't see them going very far. The Wii U is proof that the Nintendo brand is really weak at the moment, I really wonder if Nintendo can keep up with it. Maybe the QOL is their way of slowly accepting that they can't rely on their consoles and games anymore to be a healthy company...

At the moment...and, why don't we let this generation settle in for at least a year or two before we decide how weak Nintendo's brand is.  We're still in early adopter/hardcore sales phase for Sony and Microsoft.  It could be that the entire industry is "really weak at the moment."  I'm not saying this is true, but we definitely don't have enough data at the moment to prove anything other than the fact that there is still a hardcore base of gamers out there who prefer to game on their tvs than on their phones.  Capturing the elusive "casual market" is something that none of the big three have done so far this generation, at least so far.

OT: Never

I hope that Nintendo never goes 3rd Party, even though I am not much of a fanboy, I wish them to thrive in their current business and behaviour, since they still produce some of the best gaming series (Zelda and Smash Bros.) and I am willing to buy their system only for that, also, they are at least not just offering you locked gaming PCs...

They don't care about competition, so if they keep making money, never. I don't think the whole industry is against them, it was their mistake to continue cartridges in the 64 days.

Indeed, it was a mistake but that FF 7 advert was taking it a little bit too far. Square stoped publishing games for Nintendo consoles for years after they switched to Playstation.

Yeah I agree, I actually never seen that advert till now. Although you can't blame Square for that, it was the trend for most 3rd parties due to cd was a lot better to develop for. Besides, Square haven't published anything on Vita other than FF10 hd (multi with ps3 -_-), so they are not necesarily against a specific company, just want money.

I dont think it was a mistake, my n64 games still work, ps1 games on the other hand... read error galore on a good 30%-40% of my discs.

You know what I meant, cd technology it was the obvious step. What uses Nintendo games now? Rocks? And don't tell me Wii optical disc or something because is the same thing.

Never. You should surrender.

The moment they start catering to dude-bro gamers. ( so never)

People talk about how the 3DS is doing horribly, but only relative to the DS, not relative to the PS4.

People also forget that Sony's Vita is doing as terrible as the Wii U and with less of a potential future, and their Playstation phone was a complete flop.

The Xbox One doesn't look like it will be passing Wii U for a very long time?

Why would Nintendo "surrender" to companies that are not really any better off?

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.
