Havent Nintendo only ever posted a loss twice in their history? Maybe the competition that has bled billions of dollars chasing the dream ought to call it a day :P

Great post mate, the industry needs all the big three to thrive, Diversity is always a good thing.

The first problem with this was the thought that Nintendo had something to surrender from.

Where there is smoke, there is fire. This all didn't just happen by accident. This isn't grade-school bullying. Things turned out this way because of reasons, most of which have been documented over and over. What happens now is always the result of what happened in the past.

I think what bothers me the most is how some people want to ignore what Sony and Microsoft have done. This isn't just about Nintendo, this is about the work and effort that the competition has put in that Nintendo has not. You want to be angry at someone about that? It's not the fault of the internet, the media, or third-party companies that Nintendo is content to spend less time and money than Sony or Microsoft. You want to be angry about that, be angry at Nintendo.

It's business. Pure and simple. No one owes Nintendo anything. They aren't a charity. They don't get third-party support just for showing up with a name-tag on. They have billions in the bank but they can't even hire people to keep in touch with mid-level western developers? That's fine, of course, but no one should complain when those companies spend their resources elsewhere.

Weep not for Nintendo. Much of their troubles have resulted from their own actions and/or inactions.

Now, all of that being said, I think that if Nintendo gets their acts together on some fronts, they could do well for themselves as a "third place" console. They go back to cheaper consoles which turn a profit in the first year and they could be quite comfortable with the margin they generate on their own software. I do think they need to spend some of that money, make some investments for the long terms, but they don't have to go head to head with Sony and Microsoft.

Some of their fans need to stop with the excuse making, however. It's not helping.

I don't know why but the this is the first picture that came to my mind when reading the title.

My answer: hopefully never.

Nintendo doesn't seem to care about fixing their image. I'm not sure why.

Let's hope they don't. Regardless of your opinion on the Wii U or their current mindset, Nintendo has come to far to drop out of the gaming market. I still believe in Nintendo and their ability to put out quality game, time after time. I wish they would be more risky in their game development, but there is no doubt their franchises are monsters of the industry.

You don't solve your third party problems by throwing money to them, not if you are Nintendo at least. Sony and Microsoft can throw them money all they want, but Nintendo operates differently and that's what bothers third parties.

Actually it seems like the only way Nintendo *could* solve their third party problems is by throwing money at them, and it would have to be a lot, per project, to even make it worth it (because they'd have to pay not only for the game to exist, but to exist with all the stuff that third parties seem to think Nintendo gamers can do without).
