Actually it seems like the only way Nintendo *could* solve their third party problems is by throwing money at them, and it would have to be a lot, per project, to even make it worth it (because they'd have to pay not only for the game to exist, but to exist with all the stuff that third parties seem to think Nintendo gamers can do without).

It's one of the possibilities but given Nintendo's history that would be a bad idea. They can't afford to go around spending lots of money on every major third party game to secure them for the Wii U given the systems awful performance. Not even every major third party would help the Wii U right now, Wii U's trouble are mainly conceptual ones and whatever they could have done to help is no longer possible as the console's bad image is already forged.

The console itself is the one to blame but third parties where never there to even help the system thrive. And this is problem has been grwoing since the N64 or the Gamecube era. The console itself has it flaws but because of them they lost virtually every third party game.

The PS3 was a complete disaster but it always had third party support and in the end it thrived thanks to that. Nintendo could never do that because third parties don't flock to their system, they just flee from it. They would have to buy every major third party game to ensure third parties are on board. And that's impossible for them to do!

while there are still zelda, mario, pokemon, metroid, DK, etc... fans, and while they have money, they wont surrender.

they just have to do something to profit even with low sales.

That's what i mean. So they need to come up with a solution that relies on the fact that most third parties are going to ignore them.

It would seem it's the only way, but relying on "Wii hits" is not a solid strategy at all. Maybe a good solution would be to start (slowly) buying studios, or reinforcing the ones they have to keep a steady production of games.

Probably after Microsoft and Sony drop out of the gaming industry.

It's the question I keep telling to myself. We all know of the Wii U and 3DS problems, I'm not here to talk about that. I am here to talk about a deeper problem, something that has been going for years and is currently hurting Nintendo more than ever.

The media. The industry. Whatever you want to call it, but it seems there is a portion of the gaming world that it's against Nintendo and it's pretty clear but no one dares to talk about it because it's wildly accepted that it's all in "Nintendo fans minds", or "It's just a conspiracy theory".

Well I'm here to tell you it's not a conspiracy theory. In fact there is plenty of evidence about it. You need to check articles from the N64 era or the Gamecube era, heck even on the Wii era we had negative news about Nintendo.

Don't you remember guys about this?

Seem pretty obvious they where talking about Nintendo. But let's not stay with that only! Don't you remember the backlash that the gamecube recieved because it looked like a "kids toy".

I will post this article: http://www.dromble.com/2014/01/07/dolphin-tale-story-of-gamecube/ I think I already posted it once in these forums but It won't hurt to post it again for anyone who missed it. There is a whole section about the "kiddy image" of the Gamecube.

Well you get the point guys, it's just a little research and BAM! you can find all sort of negative articles about Nintendo. And over the course of the years, that weakened Nintendo. That, coupled with an incredible apathy from third party developers to publish their games on Nintendo platforms, have sunk the Wii U to new lows. And with that Nintendo now sinks to new lows.

So how long is Nintendo going to keep making games and creating hardware? Is the QOL their way of saying "We surrender, at last!"? How long is Nintendo going to try to go against an industry that seems to be against it?

That was a paid advert by Sony who published FFVII in North America.  They had similar attack ads around that time too, probably the most (in)famous of all being the Crash commercials with the mascot outside Nintendo HQ with a bullhorn.  No big deal.

SEGA did the same thing with their "SEGA does with NintenDON'T" advertisements in the early 90s, but back then Nintendo actually had balls and got the last laugh with this gem...

And people had every right to criticize Nintendo's choice of design with the Gamecube... did you know the original name for it was going to be the Star Cube before a backlash by American partners and distributors forced Nintendo to change the name before its official unveiling at Spaceworld 2000?   Yeah, let that sink in for a bit... Star Cube.  As if the GC wasn't "kiddie" enough.

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

That is definitely a necessary step too. Nintendo needs to be *ready* to support their onw consoles all by themselves. In the future, this will be easier, as they are aiming to have cross-compatibility amongst their platforms. Once they have achieved that, then the "splitting" of their limited resources will no longer harm them, as all games will work on both sides more or less (except for games really tooled to the console or handheld experience, i guess.)

Now is the time to buy up troubled-but-talented mid-tier studios before that breed dies out entirely, or invest in promising indies. Realistically, the *necessary* output capacity is only 12 significant games a year, with only half of those (at most) being really big blockbusters (there seems to be something of a conceit among Microsoft and Sony fans that their consoles just receive hit after hit due to third party support, when most of these games aren't that big in the grand scheme of things).

Essentially, Nintendo is already making the right number of blockbusters for the Wii U: the big, console-pushing (at least they are intended to) titles. What Nintendo needs more of are the "sustaining" titles that fill up the gaps, so to speak, and these could be made both more budget-friendly and filled by many different kinds of studios on a tighter production schedule, without having to worry about what third parties do or (more likely) fail to do.

They don't care about competition, so if they keep making money, never. I don't think the whole industry is against them, it was their mistake to continue cartridges in the N64 days.

Cartridge was the only way to go due to the very nature of the chipset and the form factor Nintendo wanted.

Plus you know i can boot a N64 game and be playing it in a matter of 10 seconds?

That is gold today.

Surrender now or prepare to fight!

You don't solve your third party problems by throwing money to them, not if you are Nintendo at least. Sony and Microsoft can throw them money all they want, but Nintendo operates differently and that's what bothers third parties.

That's fine, Nintendo can do business how they wish, but so can everyone else.  It's not even as much about throwing money as it is about establishing a partnership.  Business isn't about favors, it's about doing what is best for your company, period.  Sony and Microsoft have always worked harder to make their partnerships as mutually beneficial as possible.  That is what third-parties like and I do not blame them one bit.

Quite honestly, most companies that do business the way Nintendo does business fail.  They owe their very existance to the quality of their software.  Their game development studios save their ass.
