Forums - Nintendo Discussion - FF 15 and KH3 makes more sense on Wii U than Xone

All these people saying KH and FFXV are japanese games are clearly confused. Yes the game is developed by a japanese studio, but KH and FFXV both have a substantial international audience, practically the most mainstream of jrps to date.

The KH3 trailer looked amazing, even if it had cartoony graphics because thats the art style of the game, the gameplay changes are what matter and have always mattered for kingdom hearts. So saying it was developed for the Wii U is a baseless claim. Especially when Kingdom Hearts has never been on an Nintendo Home Console.

What Zero refuses to acknoledge is the fact the Xbox One and the Wii U are both equal in terms of expected KH fanbase, and similarly for Final Fantasy considering the games that Both the 360 and the Wii got last gen.

Handheld presence for KH is irrelevant because XBOX has no handheld, as long as you have owned any of the handhelds after gba (excluding vita)you would have access to a KH game.

Nintendo would be better off just offering Square-Enix one of those collaborative titles like say Mario x Final Fantasy or something.

Ports are clearly not doing anything for the Wii U, better to focus on trying to secure more exclusives through character collaborations.

To be honest I'd rather play a Mario x Final Fantasy RPG than Kingdom Hearts.

I'll weigh in.  I honestly believed Square Enix was planning for Kingdom Hearts 3 on the Wii U.  From a technical standpoint, the game looks like trash.  I'll assume they were building the game around the Wii U and then progressively build on it as they develop the engine for the console.  They didn't want to announce the game without the PS4 and most likely waited.  Then things changed.  Nintendo's Wii U isn't exactly selling gangbusters and they most likely panicked and put the game on the Xbox One in hopes of getting that install base to buy the game.  Unbeknownst to them; the Xbox One is selling equally bad, but already made the announcement. That's my belief for Kingdom Hearts 3.

Scenario 2: The game just looks bad cause they decided they're finally going to make the game and threw together something within a week for a trailer.

As far as FF 15 is concerned.  I honestly do no believe the Wii U can handle what they've shown, as is.  The kind of downgrade wouldn't be worth the headache.

KH3 was barely in development when they announced and there's nothing undoable on those FF 15 trailers. why do people keep thinking that the experience will change if the game is a little less pretty and lower resolution?

I know Kingdom Hearts 3 was barely in development, but what they shown honestly looks like a PS3 game, if not worse.  So either what they threw together was with the Wii U in mind, or it was a rush job.  Though Final Fantasy 15 looks far more impressive and the PS4 version couldn't have been in development long when they made the trailer for it so I doubt they couldn't have made a better looking Kingdom Hearts 3 trailer..

I never said Final Fantasy 15 isn't doable on the Wii U.  I said it wasn't worth the headache.  Especially trying to cram 5 gigs of ram data into 1.

Is this real life? KH3 looked far too good to be realtime.

problem is you are wrong. xone IS doing better than Wii U in the same time frame at a much higher price.

I wouldn't rule out the the chance of it being possible, but you have to keep in mind that Versus XIII (now XV) has been in development for years and years and there's a great chance it's been overhauled several times during that development. Not to mention, even if it were scalable, it would be a matter of how easily scalable relative to the small install base of the Wii U and Square Enix would raise the question, "would it be profitable?" and my guess would be that they would think it's not profitable enough. But that's all assuming it is indeed possible to scale with a decent amount of ease, which I have a feeling it isn't. I mean, didn't they move to the Luminous Engine for development. I highly doubt that engine will be supporting Wii U.

This would make sense if Square Enix was an intelligent firm looking to be profitable in efficient ways, but that is quite obviously not true considering their decade long development periods, jumping from system to system -- hyping games that won't release for another 10 years. I bought a PS3 thinking I'd be able to play Versus XIII (among other games), and was quite disillusioned when it wasn't released (or even talked about) for years, and then wouldn't be released at all. Now we have Square Enix already hyping a sequel to a game that hasn't been released, which they've been hyping for 8 years now. Those aren't the actions of a firm that knows what it is doing to achieve its goals.

As for the luminious engine running on the Wii U,

http://www.computerandvideogames.com/356105/luminous-engine-scalable-from-next-gen-to-ipad-square/

The Luminous Engine is hugely scalable, says Square's chief technical officer and Luminous demo producer Yoshihisa Hashimoto. So much so that it could power titles on current-gen systems and even mobiles and tablets.

He went on to say that the engine caters to "PC already, probably PlayStation 3, Mobile, iPad tablets also browser and cloud as well. Not just next-gen - we can scale," he said.

"This time, a lot of power was expended on graphics because we wanted to show something really visually impressive. To be clear, it hasn't been optimized yet. So we should be able to optimize AI, graphics, the animation, audio all those things to slot together," he said.

"Of course we, the team, created this engine but definitely we are going to raise the bar for AI, animation, audio and physics everything.

Oh okay. I wasn't aware of the scalability of the luminous engine, thanks, that's acutally pretty cool. But I'm still sure they'll come up with arguments about how it's incapable of porting to Wii U (for whatever BS reason) or that they believe they just won't make a profit on Wii U.

XBOne has very similar hardware to PS4. Porting it would be almost effortless, whereas the Wii U version would require work and sacrifice.

Kingdom Hearts 3:

Kingdom Hearts 2 HD:

Hmmmm, the models look frightenly the same.   One's running on a PS4, the other is a PS2 model running on a PS3.  I don't know how you can say Kingdom Hearts 3 looks any good when it barely looks better than a high res PS2 game.

Weekly sales have had them within each other.  Xbox One sold what?  55k this week vs the 45 or so of the Wii U?  Which is near the 40k of the Vita.

Shall I point out the obvious flaws in using a screenshot of compressed video footage of a pre alpha build game to judge a cartoon styled game on its graphics?

KH 1.5 and KH 2.5 are more relevant. And the changes in gameplay are what matters.

Irregardless, its completly baseless to assume that SE with develop KH 3 for the Wii U first based on said screenshots.

When it is a fact that PS has the largest KH Fanbase.

I've said it before and I'll say it again but this time in all caps and bold:

THE WII U AND XBOX ONE ARE ON EQUAL FOOTING WHEN IT COMES TO WHETHER OR NOT KH3 SHOULD BE PORTED TO SAID CONSOLE. THE ONLY SIGNIFICANT FACTORS ARE PORTING COSTS AND USERBASE.

Not only does, Xbox One have a porting advantage, but as long as it is expected to get a larger userbase than the Wii U, then its obvious to see why these decisions are being made.

the bolded part shows how limited your way of thinking is, that is not how things work (and theoretical optimized work on wii u has more RAM bandwidth than ps4, thanks to edRAM). basically, a wii u version of whatever runs on ps4 would get 720p with stable framerate and a few downgrades here and there. It's a huge exaggeration when anyone describes porting games to wii u as an herculean job.

porting to wii u would require work just like porting to xone and ps4. it's nothing new for square, it's their job after all.
