The wiiU has crappy outdated hardware and no games. The vita is a great system that came out in a dying market. The vita hands down.

The Wii U. It's sad because I have one. It's also sad that Nintendo won't spend the money to make it the great console it could've been.
Wii U because Nintendo squandered a golden opportunity by being first to launch a new console since the NES and capitalize on a full year head start, and they failed miserably.
Vita was doomed from the moment it was thought up... no handheld dedicated gaming system that was as or more expensive than its console counterparts has ever succeeded.

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.
Both make me pretty sad. It tells me that the video market is shrinking badly just when I'm getting ready in joining it as something bigger than an fan.
But at the same time both deserve it to be honest ... Nintendo focused on the 3ds. Sony focused on the ps3/ps4. Put all your resources in your consoles that actually need it and we may be talking about a different history.

Did they?
The PlayStation Vita was destined to flop from Day One. Too much competition from both Nintendo and the mobile phones. It's a nice piece of hardware but why bother when there's much more and cheaper software on an iPhone or Samsung?
The Wii U, it's sad to see the horrible sales, lack of software and pathetic advertisements for it. I really want a Wii U but there aren't enough games to justify the price and if I wanted it off my hands, I'd have to sell it for $150-200. I think sales will perk up once heavy hitters like Mario Kart 8, Bayonetta 2 and Smash Brothers U arrive but again, people seemingly aren't running out to buy an Xbox One despite Titanfall's imminent release. I worry that no amount of software will get people to buy a Wii U except for the longtime Nintendo fans.
The Wii U is sadder. Sony seemed to have stopped caring about the Vita around the time they announced its $250 price point. After that, they seemed to say "well, let's wrap up the games we're making for this thing and let 3rd parties make us money." Hence, why the only major Sony-published Vita exclusives of 2012 were Killzone, Tearaway, and Soul Sacrifice. As soon as Monster Hunter 4 was announced for the 3DS, Sony mostly shut up about the Vita, and the Vita hadn't even come out yet. If Sony can't care about the Vita, why should I?
The Wii U, on the other hand, seems to be the product of a company that cares that it's failing. Nintendo actually has broken some of its previous records in terms of working with other developers and publishers, as shown by Lego City, Bayonetta 2, The Wonderful 101, and the unprecedented indie support. They did all sorts of things that were obviously strange for them, like 30 cent sales, a powerful online network, etc. Heck, think back to E3 2011; the first proper Wii U games ever shown were Lego City and multiplatform games!
Looking forward at 2014, Nintendo has some of their biggest franchises headed for the Wii U. Sony has has announced Borderlands 2 and a God of War Collection. Both companies are failing hard, but it's much easier to sympathize with the former.
The Wii U flop disturbs me a great deal more. It should still have all the major franchises that the Gamecube and the Wii had and might not even hit Gamecube sales. I can only conclude that the Mario games on the platform must not be best Mario games.
Vita suprises me less and makes more sense. The largest software sellers from it's prior iteration haven't showed up and probably wont in any real capacity. Vita owners will get GoW, FF, MH but it wont be an exclusive venture just ports... really old ports at that. Because it had a rather nice launch library I assumed that it would get more games and more exclusive games. That was not a good assumption lol. I should have been tipped off with iOS and Android getting all those Japanese published games.
