The Wii U is sadder. Sony seemed to have stopped caring about the Vita around the time they announced its $250 price point. After that, they seemed to say "well, let's wrap up the games we're making for this thing and let 3rd parties make us money." Hence, why the only major Sony-published Vita exclusives of 2012 were Killzone, Tearaway, and Soul Sacrifice. As soon as Monster Hunter 4 was announced for the 3DS, Sony mostly shut up about the Vita, and the Vita hadn't even come out yet. If Sony can't care about the Vita, why should I?
The Wii U, on the other hand, seems to be the product of a company that cares that it's failing. Nintendo actually has broken some of its previous records in terms of working with other developers and publishers, as shown by Lego City, Bayonetta 2, The Wonderful 101, and the unprecedented indie support. They did all sorts of things that were obviously strange for them, like 30 cent sales, a powerful online network, etc. Heck, think back to E3 2011; the first proper Wii U games ever shown were Lego City and multiplatform games!
Looking forward at 2014, Nintendo has some of their biggest franchises headed for the Wii U. Sony has has announced Borderlands 2 and a God of War Collection. Both companies are failing hard, but it's much easier to sympathize with the former.
