Wii U. I still dream of a day when Nintendo games and the majority of big third party titles will be playable on the same system.
...at least, a day that occurs post Gamecube.

Vita is the biggest tragedy of the two as it's outright the best handheld in all ways now, it has the best tech, the best software and the best form factor. The alternative is a clear jump back to a previous generation and inferior in every way from a gaming perspective.
Wii U has some great exclusives, but it's never going to cover all bases and is just for Nintendo fans. Once the PS4 and XBONE get established, they're going to be a generation ahead of Wii U with a much more broad lineup of games.
You may well say "Vita has no games". You're not a gamer simple as. And this is coming from someone who loved the DS and never really "got" the PSP.

They are releasing games for it so what more can they do?
Sony put out the most original title (and one of the best games) of 2013 along with one of the best FPS games, and as far as handheld gaming goes, the ONLY FPS of note on any portable platform and it did nothing. Nintendo will be in the same position next year if Mario Kart and Smash Bros don't turn the Wii U around.

Doesn't the Vita have the better 2014 release schedule? Which so many people are going to also miss out on?
Or do Mario Kart, Smash Bros and Donkey Kong now constitute an generation defining unmissable lineup?

The vita has barely any game releases for 2014, let alone major games.

Tell that to my postman. He's already brought Danganronpa, Toukden and Ys: Memories of Celceta. Sorcery Saga should also arrive tomorrow.
Add in Final Fantasy X/X2, Demon Gaze, Deception IV, Disgaea 4, MXGP and finally a true portable Football Manager 2014 and I think that's a pretty respectable half year lineup.
Chuck in the awesome indie/digital lineup for the next few months and any serious gamer is more than happy.
Don't get me wrong. I'm looking forward to some of the Wii U stuff. But there is no contenst right now as to which system has the better 2014. And unless Nintendo pull some serious awesomeness out of the bag, it's only going to go further in Vita's favour as having the better software lineup. I only mentioned the Vita titles I'm personally particularly interested in.

At least they had the intention to release big, critically acclaimed games on it.
I would immediately buy a Vita if it was called Xperia Play 2 and running on Android, just to play FF3, FF4 and FF Dimensions with a real gamepad. And I wish my 3DS had an high resolution OLED screen and the power of the Vita, I do not need 3D or that second screen at all. But the Vita has no games worth playing apart from PS1 classics, even less games than Wii-U, not a single one.
The Wii-U deserves to fail. Nintendo shows that it has no interest in hardcore gamers and wants to make a kids only system without 3rd party support. And with the tablet controller that nobody wants, they also scared off the casual mass marked players that were bringing the money to the old Wii.
With the huge and overwhelming success of the Wii, a failure of the Wii HD was nearly impossible unless they were doing everything completely wrong, which they did and continue to do. Masterpieces like Xenoblade 2 deserve to be played by a much larger audience, it makes me sad that almost nobody will experience this game, like almost nobody experienced the original. But in order to boost Wii-U sales and make the system profitable, dramatic changes in strategy and marketing would be mandatory which would include dropping the tablet and cutting the price.
