Forums - Microsoft - Xbox One games for Japan: Microsoft promises "something for everyone" at Tokyo Game Show

The Xbox 360 got several exclusive JRPGs, they also managed to make mainline Final Fantasy games multi platform. They even got an exclusive Monster Hunter game for the system. It didn't help. Microsoft should just accept the fact that the Japanese do not care about Xbox.

Sigs are dumb. And so are you!

maybe they should try "reverse psychology" and dont release it then everyone would want one

Those several exclusive JRPGs did boost sales, and the 360 even outsold the PS3 two weeks in a row.

That mainline FF was a timed exclusive in Japan, launching over a year later on 360.

The "exclusive" Monster Hunter game was a port of the PC MMO. Which is terrible and would have the sold on any platform. Keep on going though.

Those first few  years MS really did try though. They deserved better. This really seems like a cultural situation then a gaming reason.

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

I hope MS dont snatch up Persona 5

I believe its going to be announced at TGS.

I do. It was irrelevant, and it remained irrelevant, with the added bonus of being a money pit.

For starters, they needed no RROD. That was a big factor in why people didn't want it. What series/game style do you suggest could turn them around with some legs? I don't see an existing one or one that could be made in order to do that.

I think RROD was the main reason that the PS3 was able to make a comeback at all. That said, in Japan both the PS1 and PS2 had terrible failure rates. While the PS1 had issues outside of Japan, the western PS1 was Sony's third revision of the console. Initial two versions of the Japanese PS1 had even worse overheating and DRE issues than the western launch consoles. The PS2's failure rates were so bad, Sony settled a class action lawsuit and offered free repairs. Yet that didn't stop both the PS1 and PS2 from dominating in Japan.

Nothing could stop the PS1 or Ps2 from dominating Japan. The game library for both of the consoles was so fantastic and had such an enormous amount of exclusives, there was no other platform to  buy. If Nintendo didn't screw up the N64 and Gamecube, I don't think they would have dominated in such a way.

I agree with you partially. If Nintendo hadn't botched the N64, things would be different. The Gamecube and original Xbox were doomed to fight over second place before they launched.

I kind of want Microsoft to succeed in Japan. Kinda beating all odds.

MS tried, but by the time they did, it was too late.

Their launch was beyond terrible, and they were insulting Japanese people left and right. For example, the original Xbox was codenamed "Midway," in reference to the Battle of Midway, which is when Americans started to take over the Pacific War (basically, this is when Americans were going to take over the Japanese industry). Then when the Xbox failed in Japan, Microsoft insulted Japanese more by saying "Empires collapse, Microsoft will take over," once again, in reference to WWII's American victory. Like they were rubbing it in.

Then, to add salt to the insults, Microsoft releases the 360 with the worst launch line up in history, and MS was trying to change Japanese tastes. What MS should've did was either help development go faster for Blue Dragon, Enchanted Arms, Dead or Alive 4, N3, and launch with them or delay the 360 then launch with some decent titles. If they did this, and let the other games like TOV, E. Sonata, and Lost Odyssey carry some momentum they could have sold 5-7 million.

lol it's disturbing to hear all that cultural info about japan from a guy named McDonaldsGuy.... Ironyyyyyyyy :D

good stuff I didn't know all that first paragraph...
