Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo's silence on WiiU to be broken soon

MakeAmazing said:
It is strange that they were so unprepared for the release of their own console.

Now I didn't jump in when the PS3/Xbox came out, I actually got a Wii (my first Nintendo Console)... but as i recall for quite a long time people complained there were little games available on the consoles (especially the PS3)....

So I think Nintendo, considering how badly they've been behind the curve in things such as trophies/networking, I really believe they were totally unprepared for the jump up from SD to HD. While Sony and MS had that pain (and 3rd parties) in 2006/2007 etc.

Why else isn't there a Zelda etc ready. Even as a non fan of Nintendo Games, you would *EXPECT* a game like that to be ready for or near launch...the rumours say its not going to be ready until next year seems laughable.

I think because the Wii-u is no wii, even if the next gen consoles don't sell amazingly well to begin with (in this economy its very possible)...I think the combination of better hardware, better 3rd party support and supporting the fans of their consoles with games such as killzone/halo/uncharted etc will mean the core fans will buy and be happy. I really don't think it will be very long for the Wii-u to be overtaken and pretty much insignificant for anyone who isn't a nintendo fan.

If 3rd parties support the consoles earlier this time... if i have the option of playing a AC4/GTA5 or the current gen versions (i.e they release at the same time), then this will convince many to move to the next gen consoles pretty much straight away.

In the beginning I follow you 100%. Nintendo is hitting the learning curve of HD visuals hard this gen and its definitely a root cause of their first party delay. They even came out and said as much a month or so ago.

But then you move on to say MSony will not have slow sales if new games come out on both current and next-gen... yet that makes no sense. Why would you pay $400 to $500 for a console to play the exact same game. Do you really think AC4 going to look much different? That's just silly. They'll be nearly identical games with a visual difference that nearly no-one will notice.

Same with Wii U right now, next-gen won't take off with out big exclusives. ZombiU, NSMBU (soo close to other NSMBWii), LEGO City, etc are all good to great exclusives. But they are not something that screams buy a $350 console to play me for a typical consumer.

By this holiday, we'll see those games on WiiU with a Mario Kart or Super Mario title plus the, by then, significant library along with a very possible $50 price drop, limited or permanent. MSony won't have that and will be priced over $400 easily.

Neither of them will have Wii explosion sales either. Neither will catch WiiU until at least 2015, if ever.

Who knows what numbers will upgrade to next gen... .it's all speculation, I don't know... but what I can say is that gamers like that are the early adopters... I am speaking from my own personal opinion here... but why would i want a glorious open world game like GTA5 running on 6/7 year old tech, when i can have it on a PS4/Nextbox. As it will be based on the PC version, it will look much better than the other version.

Have you played the PS3 version of GTA4... it's not that good looking a game, have you played the PC version... it looks much much better. Why would i want to play an open world game that looks not great. I certainly don't and would buy a next gen console to do that... these are the consoles biggest franchises outside of COD.. do you not think they will have an impact? Surprising.

I'm not saying *ONE* thing will make a difference, I am saying this is *another* reason for people to upgrade. New hardware, 1st party franchise games, new services, new controller, new IP, established massive franchises. It all adds up to something people feel excited about. Nintendo have failed to excite people with pretty much anything they have done so far with the wii-u. The launch announcements were poor (its just a controller), E3 was a disaster (Lets finish off with a fireworks display)... and key 1st party Franchises are no where to be seen. They havent hit any of the right notes.

As the wii-u has not exploded sales wise, I expect even if the Next gen consoles dont set the tills alight to begin with, will increase bigger over time than the wii-u. If you really think they will never catch the wii-u, I'm afraid you are very blinkered..

Megaton! Any time now! We've waited 10 years!

3 weeks later and we don't have a ND nor the silence has been broken.
Guess until the 24th we are not going to get any news. 12 days left.

They're not going to want to go into the April 24th investor's meeting with no news of first party Nintendo games in Q2.

I expect a ND before then. Which would have to be next Thursday.

New Nintendo Direct announced!

...for 3DS...

Proud to be the first cool Nintendo fan ever

Number ONE Zelda fan in the Universe

DKCTF didn't move consoles

Prediction: No Zelda HD for Wii U, quietly moved to the succesor

Predictions for Nintendo NX and Mobile

The Wii U stuff will probably be at the Investor meeting. Because they are going to have to address what they are going to do to turn things around.

Ugh........................

The silence isn't killing me, but the complete lack of activity is. They really need to come out and say something. AND GIVE US A HEALTHY AMBASSADOR PROGRAM. Even early 3DS owners didn't suffer from this gigantic drought.

People do seem to forget the 3DS' early months quickly. 8 months with little on the plate except the Ocarina of Time remake. Wii U's launch alone beats the 3DS' first eight months combined (before 3D Land and Mario Kart landed)

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

OoT remake > everything the WiiU has right now. Remake of the best game ever that a lot of people (Like myself) didn't get to play.

Nintendo sure likes screwing up launches. Even the Wii launch was screwed due to immense supply issues.

Didnt they also have Nintendogs and Cats (The original sold over 24 Million)? Layton, Pokemon Rumble, Pilotwings, Street Fighter 4, Star Fox, Cooking Mama, Steel Diver and Rayman too if I remember correctly?

The 3DS opening few Months wasnt really THAT bad for support in the grand scheme of things. Good games were there. It was just rushed out before the majority of big hitters were ready (3D Land, Kart). A big problem was that the games they put out werent system sellers, they were the complimentary "B" games that you get WITH the system selling "A" games.

The Wii U has arguably the biggest system seller there is - 2D Mario - The problem is though that it isnt getting the "Me too" games. 2D Mario can only do so much alone. Honestly, it would be better having 10 "B" games to the 1 "A" game.

Yep, just read about that. I figured one would be this week, but really... focus is on 3DS?

Seems pretty stupid to me. I'd focus on information that is going to directly affect your investor's confidence, which should be plans on the console that isn't performing up to stated expectations.

So, this is actually one of two or Wii U has to also be included in this ND. Maybe just quickly mentioning firm dates for some first party software. Frankly, if they don't then I'd expect a great majority of investor questions to be related to Wii U and its lack of first party content.
