It is strange that they were so unprepared for the release of their own console.

Now I didn't jump in when the PS3/Xbox came out, I actually got a Wii (my first Nintendo Console)... but as i recall for quite a long time people complained there were little games available on the consoles (especially the PS3)....

So I think Nintendo, considering how badly they've been behind the curve in things such as trophies/networking, I really believe they were totally unprepared for the jump up from SD to HD. While Sony and MS had that pain (and 3rd parties) in 2006/2007 etc.

Why else isn't there a Zelda etc ready. Even as a non fan of Nintendo Games, you would *EXPECT* a game like that to be ready for or near launch...the rumours say its not going to be ready until next year seems laughable.

I think because the Wii-u is no wii, even if the next gen consoles don't sell amazingly well to begin with (in this economy its very possible)...I think the combination of better hardware, better 3rd party support and supporting the fans of their consoles with games such as killzone/halo/uncharted etc will mean the core fans will buy and be happy. I really don't think it will be very long for the Wii-u to be overtaken and pretty much insignificant for anyone who isn't a nintendo fan.

If 3rd parties support the consoles earlier this time... if i have the option of playing a AC4/GTA5 or the current gen versions (i.e they release at the same time), then this will convince many to move to the next gen consoles pretty much straight away.

In the beginning I follow you 100%. Nintendo is hitting the learning curve of HD visuals hard this gen and its definitely a root cause of their first party delay. They even came out and said as much a month or so ago.

But then you move on to say MSony will not have slow sales if new games come out on both current and next-gen... yet that makes no sense. Why would you pay $400 to $500 for a console to play the exact same game. Do you really think AC4 going to look much different? That's just silly. They'll be nearly identical games with a visual difference that nearly no-one will notice.

Same with Wii U right now, next-gen won't take off with out big exclusives. ZombiU, NSMBU (soo close to other NSMBWii), LEGO City, etc are all good to great exclusives. But they are not something that screams buy a $350 console to play me for a typical consumer.

By this holiday, we'll see those games on WiiU with a Mario Kart or Super Mario title plus the, by then, significant library along with a very possible $50 price drop, limited or permanent. MSony won't have that and will be priced over $400 easily.

Neither of them will have Wii explosion sales either. Neither will catch WiiU until at least 2015, if ever.
