Forums - General - NeoGAF...?

I'm always seeing people say how amazing sales discussion is on NeoGAF, how they're the first to get all the sales info and how they get leaks before anywhere else on the net. This intrigued me...so for the past week or so I've been routinely checking NeoGAF to see this awesome place with my own eyes and...well...it's a shithole. As far as I can see from my numerous visits all there is is giant official threads about games...there's no sales/leaks in sight as far as I can see. Maybe I'm just doing it wrong though...? Is there a particular sub-forum where all the interesting stuff happens and I was just trapped in the shit part? Can anyone enlighten me?!

There is nothing amazing about GAF. And that's not just my butthurt talking!

Yeah, because talking about games is shit... -.-

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Currently playing:

Final Fantasy VI (iOS), Final Fantasy: Record Keeper (iOS) & Dragon Quest V (iOS)

Got a retro room? Post it here!

Eh NeoGaf does have some positive sides, but none that would make me join.

NeoGaf has a few famous users from the gaming industry. Some others have access to NPD data (maybe also Media Create ?) and are leaking them every now and then.
The official threads provide probably more info than our's.

Overall I think their forum is not very good as they have far too many members. If you happen to be offline for even one day you have to scroll through an insane amount of threads (new ones and bumped ones) to find the spot where you left off. Discussion is almost non-existant as you can never read all responses in a medium-sized Gaf thread. Most of these posts are one-liners because users want to post them before the topic changes or new info arrives. I've never seen two people arguing about something for more than 2 posts.

They have lots of funny gifs though.

Overall I much prefer this site, though I think a few more active users couldn't harm.

From what I've seen Gaf is the best place to discuss videogames on the internet. People like me are just salty that they can't join up instantly, but if you could, that would take away one of the reasons it's so good in the first place.

As for sales discussion specifically, it's the best place that doesn't rely on vgchartz data.

I've browsed there a few times and don't see what the big deal is either.

Maybe it's that feeling of being included in an "exclusive" group as Rol stated.

When did you join? They approve accounts twice a year, once around january and in the summer.

gaf is a community and just like ours .. until you take the time to get to know various member's personalities it will look just like any other forum. there are a lot of industry insiders on gaf and until you know who is who you won't fully grasp what they have to offer.

so in closing: 2 weeks ain't no thing bro.

They're not that special. There's a lot of snobbery and then just a lot of people.

I've never liked the look of neogaf. Compared to VGC it is very plain and boring. VGC isn't all flair though, it is just as functional as neogaf, just not as condensed. Readability is greater on here due to color scheme alone and everything isn't attacked by boxes here. We have subtle line breaks.

Also last time I went there everyone was excessively picture quoting. It happens here on occasion but most of us moderate quote trees enough that we delete pictures when quoting picture posts as habit.

I've tried joining neogaf but they won't accept my email and I'm not going out of my way to create one they will. Neogaf seems to work on reputation, more people claiming to be this person or that person who works for this company or that company. Not sure if it is true, but they get more recognition for it.

Anyway, VGC 4 Life!

Before the PS3 everyone was nice to me :(
