Sony will pounce on this, they've always been good at utilizing second world markets that others neglect.

Hopefully Nintendo will seize opportunity as well, but I wouldn't be surprised if they failed to capitalize on it, they've traditionally ignored such markets.

So... why were consoles banned in China before?

To "protect the Chinese youth" from spending too much time on games, but since Online wasn't banned....yea.

I just remembered one of the many reasons the CCP disgusts me, they're such a control freak nanny state.

Some people here forget that chinese actually don't like Japan ;). This would benefit msft more than it would benefit sony or ninty.

No but they respect each other and it's not like America and China are buddies, it clearly favours Sony and Nintendo.

It would be far better for China to produce their own consoles.
China not liking Japan don't mean they going to fall in the arms of their ideological enemy the US.

The media plays up this "Japan China war" far more than the reality, linking this to the slow down in exports between the two countries which many believe is wrong.

I really don't see China taking to a MS console anymore than the Japanese did. Like the Japanese they seem to have a love affair with Apple but not so sure about MS hardware.

As for talk about Chinese spending power, China will soon be Apples no 1 market. You don't get there unless you have serious purchasing power. If they can buy Apple products they sure as hell can buy a whole lot of consoles.

like nintendo or sony have a chance against the Vii and PolyStation...

Face the future.. Gamecenter ID: nikkom_nl (oh no he didn't!!)

Here's hoping this leads to the industry getting larger.

good news for msonyntendo hardware sales
(especially for Vita/Wii U )

Will it be good for software sales?
I don't think so.
China is the kingdom of piracy and chinese would never pay 50bucks for xbox live.

I'm thinking this will be bad for profit since consoles are sold at a loss and China is pirate-central.

@pezus. They hate everyone I think.

Nintendo needs to send some cheap Wii Minis over there ASAP.

I think that whomever really focuses on cheaper games via digital distribution and F2P is going to win, regardless of who that is.

Like others said, piracy is an issue, but that is totally negated when the console is online. Start throwing out a lot of cheaper XBLA/PSN/WiiWare games, and they'll snap them up at $5 or $10. Look at World of Warcraft: They have more Chinese players than Americans. The profits aren't as large, but its a critical market for Blizzard.

Honestly, I don't think that model benefits Mario and Nintendo at all. But we'll see who is first to cater towards the Chinese.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

Very good news for Sony/Nintendo. Obviously the Chinese will take the Asian consoles over the American one.

(Not because it's bad but because of a relevance between cultures)

Lol..Japanese and Chinese culture is nothing alike.

Dynasty warriors says hello. (They have a respect for each other's cultures. I'd say that the Japanese and the Chinese are still closer to each other than Americans and the Chinese)

This is taiwan 2011 home console software sales

That's very interesting. I'd love more information.
