As Taiwan and Hong Kong sales show, this won't benefit Japanese companies over American ones. Most people here are applying wishful thinking over what sales tell us.

There's still a huge market within that 1.3 Billion who *can* afford a console. Just look at how Apple's doing in China. iPhones aren't cheap, and Apple just did $7.3 Billion in revenue for the quarter:

To be honest apple are the only ones doing good everywhere WITH high prices.
They could bring a new phone that is weaker than every other phone on the market for double the price of the best Samsung Phone every 3 month and still sell 20 Million Units in its first month.Same goes for Ipad and every other thing they sell.
1000$ every 3 month? No problem!Even Chinese people who don't have crap to eat are willing to afford that.
But a PS4 aka the best console ever created for 400$?Not a direct purchase especially if they aren't directly piracy supported.
I think whoevers console turn out to be easiest to hack and play pirated games is going to "win" in China. ;)

i believe i read half an year ago or so that samsung and other smartphone manufacturers also sell much more in china as almost anywehere else.
it's not only an apple thing, it's an "smartphones sell a lot in china" thing.
same btw for cars. bmw, audi and vw sell much more in china as anywhere else. not sure about car manufacturers from other countries.

I don't think so actually. China doesn't like Japan, and Sony and Nintendo are japanese. I think they'll go with Microsoft, or make a system of their own. |
China still goes with the K-pop and the Asian dramas more than the CSI shows of America. The friction is due to the closeness of the 2 countries' locations. It's like how you fight more with your sister than you would your friend.
For example, Japan occupied Korea for 36 years, and we still have Dokdo (also an island) problems with Japan, but hey koreans still love the anime and manga.
(And they like our dramas)

That's like saying Korea doesn't like Japan......and yet we still buy their products over Western ones.

Sony will pounce on this, they've always been good at utilizing second world markets that others neglect.
Hopefully Nintendo will seize opportunity as well, but I wouldn't be surprised if they failed to capitalize on it, they've traditionally ignored such markets.
So... why were consoles banned in China before?

To "protect the Chinese youth" from spending too much time on games, but since Online wasn't banned....yea.
