Well it's a given. The iphone is just one phone brand, whereas there are many different android phones all from various manufacturers.

It's not a perfectly fair comparison as the iOS market is only supported on one line of phones (the iPhones), while Android is on numerous devices. That is a positive for the Android market as far as penetration is concerned.

Think back to the mid-80s for a moment. This is history repeating itself.

Macintosh in those days had an OS that they more or less locked down and only allowed specific individuals to really make stuff for it if they got a hold of a license. It's not the same these days, as you can program for it at people's leisure, but back then it was NOT easy to make programs for Macs. With iOS, every program needs to be accepted to their standards and must go through their screening process.

Meanwhile, you have Android. They are the IBM and onward PCs that were more or less open source and you could do whatever the hell you want with. People program for it, go the route they want and nothing really stops it. No screening process that needs to be gone through. In turn, Android is growing at an alarming rate and is absolutely owning the market share. Macs today still barely manage 10% market share in the desktop and laptop computer market. iPhones are doing slightly better, but not by very much.

This is a duplicate thread and it should be locked. Also, the only way is not up from here...the only way is down. Android marketshare is the highest it will ever be right now. iPhone will dominate this Christmas and then WP's like the Lumia 920 will eat away at its marketshare next year.

The entire Android OS is garbage, the overwhelming majority of people only buy them because they're dirt cheap.

Android has come a long way, but it is true that they "own" the market now mostly because they are so cheap. Even a highly rated android phone like the Samsung GS3 could be had for $0 with a contract in Canada back in the summer when it was only a month or two on the market. Apple costumers are willing to pay more to get a product they believe is of higher quality build, and more stable. They keep their phones longer, and are very loyal to the brand. The biggest threat to Android will be MS and their new OS and phones. I think you will see WP8 products with very low prices (maybe even $0 with contract) and that will steal away some of the Android market.

I think posts like this are garbage. Say things like that all you want, even the reviewers are saying the exact opposite now lol. Pretty much only people that repeat this crap are Iphone owners. Here is a quote from The Verge":
