Forums - Sales - Mortal Kombat vs Street Fighter! Who is ahead in all-time sales? (Edit)

And people who keep bringing up MK and KI those have nothing to do with SF, the only thing is they are in the same genre, they have a complete different engine powering them than any of the Capcom fighters(with the exception of SF the movie). Maybe the N64 sucked at running 2d games, which is why we didnt see that much or any on the console? And when i say 2d i mean stuff like the SFALpha series, Rayman, Castlevania. Sega Saturn was said to have run 2d games better than PS not sure about N64, will do more research

That only proves my point, Tvs.C ran on hardware that was very similar to to the Wii's own. YOu cant say the same for SF4 which was made pretty for the HDs, I think that the wiimote was a barrier as well. Kind of hard to sell a game where only a few people have the controller to play it. (CC in this case)

For pretty, the full version ran on the 3DS I'm sure the Wii could handle it. As for input, the GC controller, the classic controller and all kinds of controllers were supported. I dont think that's an issue, and would not stop people from buying it. All that's left is the online, and they did it with MH Tri. So I can't say I agree.

It's hard to compare. Even harder to believe. I mean, Street FIghter started before Mortal Kombat. There's the Street Fighter games, the different variations of those games (SF3: Double Impact, SF2: Champion Edition), the offshoots like Street Fighter Alpha and Street Fighter X, the cross overs like Street Fighter vs X-Men, the Street Fighter EX games, different platforms from Gameboy to PSP, and even Street Fighter The Movie.

And Mortal Kombat has the main series, Shaolin Monks, Sub Zero, and MK vs DC.

Plus, I'm a bigger fan of Street Fighter so I'm going with that one.

Its not about whethere you would buy it or not, but what the company; Capcom thinks would be worth it and profitable. Lets try to look at it from their point of view. How much of the Wii owners own a GC controller? how about the CC?? Fact is there is a potential limit as those controllers are STANDARD with every Wii, theres your barrier right there. Unlike the other systems which use standard control. Im not saying the Wii couldnt run some version but at the time Capcom for whatever reason decided not to go with it. Yeah 3ds and iOS version got it eventually but i still wouldnt consider those the full true versions either(3DS has crappy backgrounds and is missing Arcade version content, iOS just plain sucks)

Of the two, probably Mortal Kombat, if only for the theme music

The 3DS version is lacking I think 2 characters and maybe some costumes, but it has everything else. But the Wii wouldn't have that problem since it's disc-based and would have all the DLC. Crappy backgrounds don't break the game imho. Ultimately it wasn't a technical limitation on the Wii, nor was it on the 64 (killer instinct).

The controller one is more difficult to debate, but keep in mind the majority of core Wii gamers own gamecube controllers or classic controllers (it's a fair assumption), so there's a market right there. Plus, what would stop them from making their own 3rd party controller? THere was one for Tri, why not for SFIV? The market was there, the sales potential was. I think it was just a bad decision on Capcom's part to be fully honest, nothing Nintendo did wrong. Though I will admit that the controller thing was a hurdle on Nintendo's part, that's the only  thing I'll concede, but it sure is not a show-stopper, and did not break the business case in any way.

Well, actually *puts on geek glasses* the 3DS version has all of the DLC that the owners of Super Street FIghter 4 had to pay a ton of money for.  It doesn't have the Arcade Edition content (Yun, Yang, Evil Ryu, and Oni plus some balancing and costumes) partly because.....that stuff came out after SF4 3DS was released.

The backgrounds were sacrificed but then, the same thing happened with MvC3 on the Vita.

And that's my two cents.  Carry on, you two.

@bold. It was itching me so bad, that's what you get for posting in like 10 threads at the same time :D What I was going to say was that the 3DS version was in essence the Super Street Fighter IV version, it has litterally everything you really need in a 40$ package. I like it, I own it, I bought it. :)

I never said it was a technical limitation. This is a fighting game not some vast sandbox. But the facts remain they would still have had to made the game from the ground up for the Wii just like they did for 3ds and iOS and it was 4 characters not 2. (evilRyu, Oni, Yun and Yang). Im not backing their decision, hell i know i didnt have to wait, but i do understand it. and see why they did it.

Interesting, why would that be a fair assumption? Its not like GC was such a big seller that their would be alot of controllers out there in the wild. CC that is more of a wild card, but if your the type of person that bought a WIi just to play stuff like Wii Sports adn what not, then that person most likely wouldnt care about CC or the games that support it. There is VC but how well has that really done? I know SMB3 did really well, but you dont even need a CC to play the NES games.  It cost money to make a controller and they had help from Ninty on MHTri, not the same situation, which would lead me to believe that Ninty didnt care enough to try to get SF4 on the system or Capcom didnt even approach them.

Actually, the CONSOLE version of Arcade edition came out like 2 months after the 3DS one, but the actual Arcade version proper(as in being at the arcades) had already been out for a year. IMHO Capcom could have easily had that stuff in the 3DS version. It was already done. Unless they started working on the 3ds version even before they added those 4 extra guys. or they just said screw it
