Forums - Sales - Mortal Kombat vs Street Fighter! Who is ahead in all-time sales? (Edit)

The only fighting games I have ever purchased are:

WCW VRS NWO (N64(

I used to love Mortal Kombat. Scorpion was by far my favourite character. "Get over here!"

MY favourite fighting game ever was Tekken 5. And then they raped it with Tekken 6. At least the new MK is a beast and makes it up for Tekken.

Though my two favourite Characters ever are Scorpion and Sub-Zero

If only capcom had continue to release street fighters on nintendo consoles also they would have had the lead. My favorite is The Last Blade 2 by SNK best overall fighter ever made, not really well known though

not Capcom's fault that they decided to go with funky controllers and weird ass hardware. They made the right choice

Hmmm I always thought the N64 was a better choice for capcom's fighters as it had the six button layout on the face of the controller, it loaded faster (I hate long loading screens for fighters like on ps1), and it was the only console at the time that could have run street fighter 3 (before the DC launched).

So yeah it was capcom's poor choice, that why they lost the sales, mind you MK4 was on the N64.

Also the ps1/n64 era is where tekken began its rise on consoles.

Mortal Kombat and SF are completly different games, lets be real here this is Capcom, they put MegaMan, Resident Evil but not put SF on the N64?? Makes no sense. Going by this im gonna say they either couldnt or it would have been to difficult. Where is your evidence it could run SF3, as far as I know there were no games on N64 that even looked like SF3, never mind the audio would have suffered. Makes sense that they put their series on the system with the BIGGEST install base.

Tekken outsold both those franchises without Ninty consoles.

I am aware of the difference in gameplay between MK and SF. As for the SF3 I remember reading that many many years ago ,so I'm not going to look it up now, or maybe I just don't know what I'm talking about who knows. And well the best selling SF was on a nintendo console and thats where it gained its popularity so it would make sense, but then again it is capcom

Nothing to do with Ninty IMHO, SF2 was simply just a phenom worldwide and it happened to be exclusive to SNES, other consoles wouldnt get an SF game till the later additions, which Capcom did in fact squander by releasing version after version. IMHO i dont think it would have done that much better being on N64, especially if we wanna look at sales for 3rd party games in general. Would have been nice, would have helped a bit, but the damage to the brand and 2d fighters in general was already done.

Capcom also refuse to put SF4 on the Wii. They simply hated money.

I loved Tekken 3, but the arcade version was much faster than the ps one... it' a bit "unfair" street fighter in 3rd place and i doubt that street fighter x tekken vita will do some favor to sf sales...

@bold. You could have said the same for the Wii, yet we got Tatsunoko vs Capcom. Also, the N64 got killer instinct, so no I wouldn't make that assumption. It was a business reason, and no other.

closer than i thought, but damn i didnt think Tekken was kicking both their asses that badly, which is even more interesting considering it didnt debut until the 32bit era

Actually, what you see as a handicap is what i'd say is the reason why.

SF2 and MK were their hottest in the SNES/Gensis era.

Also worth noting... VGChartz is missing a lot of earlier data... including PC SF4 sales.

Guessing Street Fighter has pushed a few million there alone.

That only proves my point, Tvs.C ran on hardware that was very similar to to the Wii's own. YOu cant say the same for SF4 which was made pretty for the HDs, I think that the wiimote was a barrier as well. Kind of hard to sell a game where only a few people have the controller to play it. (CC in this case)
