Smash Bros Brawl is my favourite fighter, personally, which incidentally is the best-selling fighting game of all time.

I had no idea Tekken was the biggest.. I thought it was the awkward third fighting game with MK and SF being the only big two contenders...

closer than i thought, but damn i didnt think Tekken was kicking both their asses that badly, which is even more interesting considering it didnt debut until the 32bit era
I love all fighting games, but Smash is my all-time favorite.
@OP. Maybe it's time Capcom made Nintendo consoles the home for SF games again. Been a while since the series kicked ass like on the SNES!
If only capcom had continue to release street fighters on nintendo consoles also they would have had the lead. My favorite is The Last Blade 2 by SNK best overall fighter ever made, not really well known though

Honestly I think SF>MK in terms of sales if you include the digital sales as well. Point is SF 1-4 are downloadable while I have not seen many MK availible for download.

It's a wash for me, personally. I always liked both series' on Super Nintendo, though my mom didn't let me play them much since I was a kid and they were too violent. Once I was old enough to play them, everyone else kicked my ass too hard XD I can't get too into MK9 or SFIV because I have few people to play local MP with and the online communities are ridiculously good.
Overall I'd give a slight edge to MK, though, because Fatalities are awesome.

not Capcom's fault that they decided to go with funky controllers and weird ass hardware. They made the right choice

Hmmm I always thought the N64 was a better choice for capcom's fighters as it had the six button layout on the face of the controller, it loaded faster (I hate long loading screens for fighters like on ps1), and it was the only console at the time that could have run street fighter 3 (before the DC launched).
So yeah it was capcom's poor choice, that why they lost the sales, mind you MK4 was on the N64.
Also the ps1/n64 era is where tekken began its rise on consoles.

Mortal Kombat and SF are completly different games, lets be real here this is Capcom, they put MegaMan, Resident Evil but not put SF on the N64?? Makes no sense. Going by this im gonna say they either couldnt or it would have been to difficult. Where is your evidence it could run SF3, as far as I know there were no games on N64 that even looked like SF3, never mind the audio would have suffered. Makes sense that they put their series on the system with the BIGGEST install base.
Tekken outsold both those franchises without Ninty consoles.
