You're mistaken on the 1080p bit for third party games, none of the Wii U third party games run at 1080p outside of Scibblenauts I believe. Pretty much everything else is 720p.

The above shots are nice but nothing mind blowingly beyond what's on the PS3/360. That looks like a mid-tier 360 game. If Sony showed up tomorrow with that and said that was Playstation 4 or Microsoft debuted that XBox 720, a lot of the press would rip them apart.

I don't know where you heard that fabricatoin, but all Wii U third parties game that have had their resolutions confirmed have confirmed it to run the games at 1080 at 60 FPS.

Only 1st party games are going to be limited to 720p per NIntendo's own personal choice.

Those shots are a Zero tier 360 game. There isn't one 360 game that uses textures that clean and high res with that much detail in real time with that much happening on screen at once.

LOL, give me a source that states all Wii U third party games run at 1080p. You might be mistaking 1080p upscaling, that's not native rendering, the PS3/360 can do that as well. FIFA, Madden, Batman Arkham City, etc. all these games are 720p.

Why the hell would Nintendo limit their own games to 720p if the system is capable of cranking out higher end games like Assassin's Creed 3 at 1080p? Don't give me that "it costs more to make a 1080p game" that's a crock of BS, every PC game ships with multiple resolutions, it doesn't affect development cost, it's just a matter of whether or not the hardware can handle that or not.

Those pictures are nothing special. This is the beginning point of what people are looking for from next-gen consoles:

There is no mistake. It has been stated many times. I don't provide sources for common well known facts that would show up with even the slightest effort in searching.

You are clearly  just making up everything you are saying to your own preference and know nothing about what you are talking about if you don't even know something as redundant as that with how many threads have been posted on it and how many times it has been discussed.

dou you have screens of this game in 1080p or is it a first party game (because screens are in 720p)? i saw a video of that game once but only in 480p and it looked like a lot of fun. can't really look videos in higher res without streaming it for a year^^

On the topic of thee original post. I completely agree. The mainstream media is very quick to put the doom and gloom on anything Nintendo does. From people openly saying the 3DS was a disaster and Nintendo is on its last legs (lacking innovation and even losing their casual market), to claiming everything Nintendo does is the last good thing the company will do. I am extremely tired of the media's obvious slant in reporting. When they decide to cover Nintendo, it is mostly negative slander and that is if they pay Nintendo attention at all. Remember Monster Hunter Tri? One of the best games of the year on any console? Oh the media didn't. They act like the game never happened. Even Gamestop (who ran a free demo promotion of the game) neglected to put the game on its soon to be released board (they also missed Tatsunoko Vs. Capcom on that board as well, and I have some 70 pictures from different Gamestops all over the country that I used in an anti-Gamestop campaign a couple years ago) before it was released. It is like, the media does everything they can to create this image of Nintendo not giving a fuck about getting good games on their console. And people that are not in the know about Nintendo, they eat this bullshit up. It is disturbing.

Vita is without a doubt, a massive flop. There is no pretty way to put it. If I made a Vita-esque mistake in business, there would be absolutely NOBODY willing to grant me a loan to distribute pencils or sell lemonade on the sidewalk by my house for 25 cent a cup. Yet, the mainstream media is almost pussyfoot scare to write an article that is half as harsh as thee articles we saw about 3DS being doomed because it was not outperforming the DS in the same time span. And to top that off, all thee, "analysis" was totally off base and people still use these arguments today as if they have not already been disproved. Why is everyone in the media afraid to admit the truth? Even when Sony said, "599 US dollars" the majority of the hate came from internet users rather than mainstream media.

What I see Nintendo going through is absolutely crazy. It is as if they are the company losing billions of dollars a year (uhhhh no) and laying off 10,000 workers and closing down studio after studio. However, the comapny that does all those things, not one doom and gloom, not one, "is this thee end of..." not one, "they are losing reality with gamers..." article from major mainstream media. People are so easy to jump all over Nintendo, even when they do things correctly (drop 3DS price and realease a good first party title) as opposed other companies making huge mistakes (not lowering price of Vita and still no provoking software), Nintendo is the company all the hate articles are aimed towards.

I wish it would change because it is underserving. I am not trying to say Nintendo does everything correctly, but come on now... it seems that from a media standpoint, everything Nintendo does is a sign of thee end of the company. I am tired of it.

Honestly the hate for the Wii U pales in comparison to the Hate for Vita, so I barely notice it.

I live in germany. I used Google News around the Vita-launch and the media was full of praise for the Power of the Vita and comes a real handheld and so on. Even now, maybe some media mentions the bad sales, but overall it contains praise for a new function or game or whatever.

Ah, so we are only talking about media. Well that is mostly because of Nintendo's last two E3 confernences not being that great and their lack of information about the console so close to its release date. No doubt there is some questioning on how well the Wii U will do, will they retain the casual gamer, can they regroup the hardcore? Stuff like that. It does seem the Wii U will have a lot of difficulty during its launch. It isn't that much more powerful than the PS3 and the 360 while trying to implement a new type of controller. Things could go well, things could go bad. The system will do fine. How hateful have the articles been really? Or are they just slightly negative and fans are taking offense?

Yeah, the OP was talking about media, specifically gaming media. I'm not sure about hate, wouldn't word it so myself, but I can see some extremely caution and spepsis against WiiU, while Vita got relly much praise pre-launch. Can't say how it was for 3DS, because I didn't look into the press too much, before I was buying one. But as in german forums the 3DS is named a failure, because it sells bad it must have got much negative press pre-pricecut and named failure and not much coverage post-pricecut with much better sales. Most people in forums in germany are surprised, if I tell them that it is now selling around DS at the same point in lifetime.

Thanks, interesting. German Wikipedia lists the SG1000 as second gen. English as third gen. Could be seen either way: a late second-gen or an early third-gen-console. Vectrex was also very late. Anyways, either way the NES is the first console, only possibly together with the SG-1000.

3DS and Wii both had fairly positive pre-hype from the media. The 3D effect and the Wiimote were well received.

The 3DS started getting bad press once the sales started to flutter, but this happens to every system that has sluggish sales early on -- PS3 got it, Sega Saturn got it, Dreamcast got it, Vita is getting hammered with it now.

If you removed the Nintendo logo from the Wii U and made it a Sony product or a MS product, it would be getting skepticism from the press too.

Really ask yourself what Nintendo has shown here that deserves massive praise? NSMBU and Pikmin 3 are charming sure, but they also very much look like the standard Wii-style visuals moderately bumped up into the HD-era. All the third party content is either a 360/PS3 port or falls into that range.

And that's basically it.

Maybe Nintendo should consider actually showing things like Retro or EAD Tokyo or NSTs new projects. Hard to get excited over a system where most of the games have a "already seen this" feel to them.

Not everything a freaking conspiracy. Nintendo has been sloppy in debuting and demoing the Wii U and haven't really shown anything that mind blowing. Iwata even admitted after the first E3 that they did a bad job with their presentation.

No reasons for hate. Enough reasons for skepticism, or, in my case, cautious optimism.

Nintendo haven't exactly handled the launch particularly well. We don't know the price or really even a concrete release date so it is hard for supporters to really get into it.

On the other hand if you already own a PS3/Xbox 360 what does the Wii U bring to the table? It brings a tablet controller and that is about it. I believe people want more than a retread of what they already own, many people are more than ready for a next generation and what is the Wii U except a retread of the existing one?

LOL

I feel like if you switch 360 and Wii around, this situation is the exact same thing as Move & Kinect.

The tablet is another new method of control. I'm not really sure what else they could have done instead.

What does the Wii U offer someone whom already has an Xbox 360?

Well, the obvious answer is the WiiU Gamepad.  Never before has the touchscreen interface, asymmetrical gameplay or streaming ability that Nintendo is championing been done with a home console before.

The other big reason is the games; not the multiplats, there I agree, but specifically Nintendo's games with up-to-date HD graphics.  Obviously I'm not talking about people who don't like Nintendo games, but the simple fact is that the mass gamers (i.e not the enthusiasts) are quite happy with the visual fidelity we're at now with the HD consoles.  My point being that many people are likely to see more justification in upgrading Nintendo's console for their Zelda and Mario to be at the "current" level than they would be in upgrading Xbox or Playstation to "even prettier" levels when they're already happy with how their Halo or God of War look.

The features of the WIi U are major unknowns at this point. Nintendo felt that the 3D in the 3DS was a worthwhile feature as well, however it didn't let them maintain their launch price for very long. I wouldn't count on unknown features and besides the best feature of the Wii U is likely brand and reputation.

How happy are you with PS1 level graphics? People were very happy with that too. I don't think that anyone is going to say no to better graphics at a similar price. Noone would buy a PS1 or PS2 for the same price as a PS3 so obviously visuals are a factor. People bought the Wii inspite of the lack of visual fidelity because it offered something unique which drew people in. What the WIi U offers is not nearly as unique as the WIi and half of the functionality will be copied with the Xbox 360 smart glass at or before launch.

Tease.
