3DS and Wii both had fairly positive pre-hype from the media. The 3D effect and the Wiimote were well received.

The 3DS started getting bad press once the sales started to flutter, but this happens to every system that has sluggish sales early on -- PS3 got it, Sega Saturn got it, Dreamcast got it, Vita is getting hammered with it now.

If you removed the Nintendo logo from the Wii U and made it a Sony product or a MS product, it would be getting skepticism from the press too.

Really ask yourself what Nintendo has shown here that deserves massive praise? NSMBU and Pikmin 3 are charming sure, but they also very much look like the standard Wii-style visuals moderately bumped up into the HD-era. All the third party content is either a 360/PS3 port or falls into that range.

And that's basically it.

Maybe Nintendo should consider actually showing things like Retro or EAD Tokyo or NSTs new projects. Hard to get excited over a system where most of the games have a "already seen this" feel to them.

Not everything a freaking conspiracy. Nintendo has been sloppy in debuting and demoing the Wii U and haven't really shown anything that mind blowing. Iwata even admitted after the first E3 that they did a bad job with their presentation.
