IPad's are lot more expensive and you may be too afraid to lose this device or risk having it stolen. Tablets are cheaper than the IPad, may not last as long but they can be less than half the price of the IPad and offer almost the same sort of experience. Non-IPads can be customised and modded and has flash player. IPads offer an easy to use software device, look aesthetically better than Tablets, are expensive and no flash player.

You mean $200. The iPad is $200 more than a Fire. Twice the price for twice the tablet.

Edit: Holy crap, guys. The original iPhone in 2007 played Youtube videos and even Adobe has given up on Flash now. Get with the times.

Then why does my computer constantly bug me about updating Adobe Flash?

Cause it's a piece of sh*t with a lot of security holes in it... and I'm actually a flash developer... but Famousringo is right.. Adobe is trying to make a HTML 5 alternative to flash and the new flash cs6 has tools to convert the animation in HTML5.. Flash is not here to stay

Yes, I should have been clearer: if you want a cheap tablet, most probably you'll still have to cut too many corners, batteries life possibly being one.
For my personal tastes, enough computing power and RAM and enough battery life and capacitive touch screen on cheap tablets will be the maturity milestone. Just like the Alcatel One Touch 990 is the first budget smartphone that maybe I'll ever buy, having reached the necessary maturity, it offers a lot of high end features (including front and rear camera) for less than 150 Euros. Personal tastes. The concept of "tablet or smartphone both cheap and mature enough" may vary from person to person.

I ended up purchasing it for my mom as a gift. Super super cheapo tablet, but it will "do the job", and it may convince my dad that a better tablet is worth the money. Supposed to arrive either tomorrow or Wednesday here.

How long does your battery last? If you watch videos, I know it drains quickly, but how quickly? I want to load it with videos for her flight back from California to Ohio this weekend.

I purchased a touchpad during the firesale last year. It can dualboot WebOS and Android ICS. Pretty happy with it though I don't think i'm ready to trade a laptop for any tablet.

It was smart that you got the pad. I still don't understand why you asked us when your specifications were like,
"I'm looking for a large pad shaped electronic that reads pdfs and does what ipads do".

Eh, I'm just tired and need a cigarette. Hey vgc, I'm going to smoke something, should it be a cigarette, an ipod, or a vita? I'm looking for something with a tobacco-like flavor, and don't want to spend more than a couple dollars.
