Forums - General Discussion - Is Game of Thrones REALLY as good as they say?

The tv show, i've seen just one episode the first one and thought it was a piece of shit, its like a bad porn movie with incest porn and old ladies fucking younger guys, then some girl gets raped and kept as a sex slave to a tribe hopefully in the next porn episode she's going into a gangbang, then some random sex scenes with a lame story about horny old women and elders, then people die but the queen never gives a shit and keeps fucking a guy and then a kid dies when he sees her old saggy tits.

so thats my experience with it, is it all the same?

Yeah there's nudity, but that's expected for a movie channel show.

I wouldn't call it a well-produced porn more than I'd call it a realistic look at fantasy.

I personally think this show is great, but that will not help you.

If you are offended by the sex-scenes, you should stop watching, they will not go away. If you are offended by the random killing, that will increase (and based on the books it will happen more often).

It is a complex show, with many characters and schemes. You have to pay attention, to follow the story. The author (George R.R. Martin) is influenced by historical events like the wars of the Roses, and actually I believe this show somewhat realistically a medieval world. Included all the sex and the intrigues and the killing.

GREATEST. SHOW. EVER.

What channel does it air on?

No, the story is really and sex is only a natural part of it. I think you're getting to wrapped up in the sex scenes and ignoring the larger story.

I loved the first season and can't wait for April 1.

Does any made for tv movie, movie or any other media outlet ever follow the books completely? Main reason why so many did not watch The Legend of the Seeker show.

As George R.R. Martin is involved in making the show I think they will not depart from the ideas behind the books. Sometimes they may seek another view of the events though.

I found the GRR Martin books to be fairly crappy too (I got up to the point in book 3 when it got to this vomitous scene where it started describing an erect dwarf penis in detail before he was going to rape a 12 year old girl - this turned me off of not just the series, but the entire American fantasy genre.). No memorable characters, and the story seemed to rely on very forced tragedy and trashiness (like trying to be edgey with gratuitous pedophilia) in an attempt to keep it interesting for people who like that sort of stuff. Essentially, whenever something good happens to someone, it always means something terrible will soon happen to that character.

It's the fantasy genre's answer to Twilight.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

Yes, it's as good as they say. Best fantasy TV show ever made.

Willkommen zurück, Mnementh.

I'd say stop focusing on the sex scene and realise they're simply a storytelling tool for the characters and to help setup the different cultures. The rape scene for instance becomes especially important for that characters' development over the first season. The first episode shoves a lot of information on the world, cultures and characters; the sex is really only a minor part of it.

I would advise you to read the book first. It makes the show a LOT better. It stops being a flashy disguised porno and actually becomes a fascinating addition to the story.

I can't understand how anyone who hasn't read the book unserstands what is going on, and I am amazed that the majority of people who watch without reading are fans.
