Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 released a couple of days ago to find Universal Acclaim and high sales, even if a bit overshadowed by the sudden release of Oblivion Remastered.

Meanwhile, Final Fantasy fans are a bit concerned about how silent Square is about the latest main entry, Final Fantasy XVI sales.

Expedition 33 sold over 500k units in it's first couple of days. We are not sure about Final Fantasy XVI numbers, but we know it has passed 3 million. Earlier this year, a report claimed that the game had only sold 3.5 million, but it was proven to be false. Square remains silent, though.

So, the question is: Can Sandfall Interative's first game outshine the latest FF entry?

To me, it would be a bit hard, but not impossible on the long run. However, it's kinda hard without knowing FF true sales numbers.

What do you think?

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is available for Playstation 5, Xbox Series and PC.

Final Fantasy XVI is available for Playstation 5 and PC.

XVI probably sold close to 4 million

Clair Obscur has a chance if the hype survives award season

God I hope so, I've been thinking this since the reviews dropped. It's 3.5 million. It's a tough ask but dammit the industry and Square need a wake up call without an genre crash or worse an industry crash.

Also, it was 500k in 24 hours and we still don't know if that wording is legit copies sold and not a manipulation of Game Pass figures too. If Oblivion hadn't shadow dropped, this would be such an easy yes, they will outsell FF16 but Bethesda went and fucked things up like the fuck ups they are.

I'm pretty sure it's over 500k sold.

Usually, companies never count Game Pass players as sales. If they had said "500k Players", then we know it would count Game Pass.

Yeah, I guess so. It is specific wording. I'm waiting for the 1 million sold release, this is getting massive word of mouth, even with Oblivion sucking attention. Perhaps during the week after people return to the water cooler from gaming the weekend.

Going to say no but also say it probably should. FF16 is just not good. 2024 was stacked with RPGs and most turn based and sold well while FF16 the one chasing wider audience by making the game braindead to play, flopped for FF standards. Let 33 sell very well and be another of many examples showing SE fans want turn based and GOOD RPGs again. FF is far from the only name in town.

FF is kind of going into a dead-end anyways. There are some folks like me who buy them day one. But the games have no legs to speak off. They start of strong and after three weeks they are legless. Wouldn't surprise me if FF17 will take a really long time, maybe as long as between the previous and next Dragon Quest game.

Please excuse my (probally) poor grammar

2 million between tomorrow week and the week after but then it's a long wait till 3 million. Could Award season and sales bump it there...probably, then it has to do another million on top of that to clear FF16 confidently. Idk, I wouldn't take this bet tbh but it's a nice day dream.

To be frank I don't expect anything more than on it's few weeks on the market and a slight bump during the award season. Maybe it can perform on par with FFXVI ?

Nonetheless, excellent news for the studio first foray into the industry.
