Forums - Sony Discussion - CNN Money-The PS3 is a Sinking Ship

  1. It's the most expensive console on the market, $150 - $200 more than its rivals. Even if you believe the video game industry is "recession-proof" (it isn't), a tanking economy makes consumers more price-conscious.
  2. The PS3's big bonus is its ability to double as a Blu-Ray player. Too bad no one seems to care about hi-def DVDs. The differences between Blu-Ray and DVD are hard to see on a TV less than 50".
  3. The PS3 just doesn't have any must-have titles exclusive to the console. "LittleBigPlanet" has generated decent buzz but isn't a game-changer, and neither is Sony's new virtual world "Home."

"Tell yourself the PS3 has superior graphics if it makes you feel better, but a $400 console with a mediocre game library simply cannot compete against an Xbox 360 priced at $200 in this economy."

OUCH!!!

1. Yea, its is espensive, sony knows that. Everyone does believe me, I bought mine at the 600 dollar price tag. Yet regardless of its huge price dissadvantage the PS3 was outselling the 360 for like a whole year worldwide. Yet CNN doesn't talk about that. The 360 didn't start outselling it again worldwide till the most recent price drop. Hmmmmm an exspensive console that can out sell cheaper competiton? Un heard of.

2.BluRay is growing faster then DVD was in the VHS days. What complete idiots who know nothing. BD movies are gaining massive market share every year. I believe they are at about 20-25 percent now or something? And You most definitely can tell the difference in the visuals, even on the tiniest of screens. You know why? It is becuase the smaller the tv, the closer we fucking sit to it so we can see what is going on better, so regardless of actual tv SIZE you are seeing about the same amount of screen and visuals.

3.No good games? Now I know they are talking out their ass when the PS3 has delivered the BEST games this year. With  MGS4, Socom, Valkyria Chronicles, Little Big Planet, and Resistance 2, as well as an army of MP games that appeared on the system it has plenty. Here are some statistics for you CNN, PS3 is has more games then the 360 did at the same point in it's life span. PS3 has Sold more then the 360 at its same time in life span. PS3 is finally starting to outstrip the 360 in visual and pure gaming quality with games such as LBP, R2, K2, GoWIII, HR, et all available now or soon next year. PS3 also has the strongest line up for 2009 as well.

That includes...

Infamous(you want sandbox? You like Superheros? Right here!)

Demon's Soul (You like WRPG style games? here ya go too)

Fat Princess (You like cartoony gore? surprise!)

Savage Moon (You wanna RTS the hell out of some Aliens? This is all ya need?)

God of War III (You got the bloodlust you say? Take this!)

DC Universe Online (YOu want an MMO? YOu got an MMO)

Ratchet Sequal (YOu said more ratchet? Ill give you more Ratchet)

Uncharted 2: Amongst Thieves (Naughty who? Naughty Gods thats who)

Heavy Rain (You want graphics? Ill make your eyes bleed!)

Killzone 2 (YOu want gratuitous violence rapped in a shell of pure AWESOME? Voila)

White Knight Chronicles (You think SE is the only one that can make epic RPGs? TAKE THIS YOU NOOB!)

etc for all the ones I am forgeting.

PS3 has finally released HOME which regardless of what publications such as YOU are saying is quite popular with people vibing within it everytime I enter it.

CNN....you are full of shit.

The credibility of your dvd comment is off because Blu Ray is still no threat to DVD. The only thing PS3 has going for it right now is the slow but gradual list of games coming out for it.

This topic is epic. From conspiracy to meltdowns...

Seriously, that article was poorly written but it had a point.

How many cups of darkness have I drank over the years? Even I don't know...

Proof that BluRay is nothing other then perfection and WILL take over DVD.

In effect, CNN loses another thing to pick on the PS3 for. You know I think I know exactly what is going on. American publications want the PS3 to lose so badly because they believe by making the 360 successful it might aid. or at least contribute, to bettering it's current economy. This is true, America is currently bailing its car companies out of bankruptcy and is doing everything in it's power to make sure "american products" sell well in .....America. Which they usually do not because they are crapilly made and do not deserve to.....>_>. This Is why we are constantly seeing negative counteractions to anything PS3 positive.

American Agenda: Make Great things for PS3 seem normal and make shortcomings for PS3 seem a whole lot worse then they actually are. That is whats been going on this whole gen.

first CNN have always right, they never critized engagment in Irak

try to spell iraq next time.

First, there's languages other than english in the world. But being a smartass is especially pointless in this case, cause you're talking about the western spelling of an arab word (العراق), which can only be an approximation anyway...

Sorry, chief, gotta keep you honest. The final letter in Iraq is ق, which is transliterated into "qaaf," similar sounding to English's q with a gutteral emphasis. There is a letter in Arabic transliterated "kaaf" (take your pen and make a backwards "L" and add a hamza) that is the exact same sound sound as English's "K" sound. You are just plain wrong, and hiding behind a claim that there "can only be an approximation" masks your ignorance. Arabic has about 10 letters that don't have a direct equivalent in English. "k" is not one of them. Spell it right next time.

You need a $1000 50 inch HDTV to get the full benefits out of PS3. Blu-Ray only looks great in 1080p

SONY need that pricecut.. theyr going to let xmas slip but catapult back in march 2009. They need to.. only thing worse than a SONY dominated industry is a M$ dominated one( yes yes the wii is no.1 and all that) I think two incremental cuts of 50$ next year should put them on par with the 360

Doubt is not a pleasant condition, but certainty is absurd.

b. a nintendo developed game that has a "M rating"

c. redesgined PS controller

d. SEGA back in the console business

e. M$ out of the OS business

Many people on this thread better hope things do not turn around.

If so, expect a shit storm and tons of crow eating. Be ready, because it has happened all too many times before.

360 was getting beaten last Holiday season and for 35+ straight weeks, but people kept saying "it will change". Now PS3 gets beaten this Holiday season and probably for a while after, yet it is all over now?

You've gotta love how that works.

Also, the fact people want doom for a company that has brought top notch gaming and expanded the gaming audience over the last 12+ years is just sad... fucking sad.

Why is this so hard to understand? Sony as a company is in trouble. It's not that people want the PS3 to fail, at least I don't, it's about facing the reality. Unless Sony can do something miraculous, or unless the exchange rates change to favor Sony, they can't afford a price cut anytime soon. There are serious concerns that Sony, the whole company, is going to lose money. They don't have great reserves of cash, unlike MS. The reason people kept saying "it will change" about the X360 was because MS could afford to cut the prices. It seems very unlike that Sony can do the same, or if they do that they will likely have to finance the price cut with loans.

Why should Sony risk the financial security of the entire company to lower the prices of the PS3? That's the question that I'd like all Sony fanboys to answer. How could Sony regain what they already have invested, pluse the new investments needed to lower the price?

This comment has gotten bashed a lot, but I understand his point. I own a 42 inch plasma, and I can see a difference between blu-ray and a good upscaling dvd player, but it's not earth shattering. I can understand why an average consumer is unimpressed with difference. There was a much larger difference between VHS and dvd.
