Forums - Nintendo - I feel Switch 2's first party lineup deserves props for its cadence and variety

In less than a year and a half we already have a diverse range of first party offerings across numerous genres, including racers (Mario Kart World, Kirby Air Riders) 3D platformer, (DK Bananza) 2D platformer, (Yoshi) action, (Hyrule Warriors) life sim, (Pokopia) sports, (Mario Tennis Fever, Drag x Drive) strategy, (Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave) TPS, (Splatoon Raiders) action-adventure, (Prime 4) rail shooter, (Starfox) and RPG. (Pokemon Legends Z-A)

What's more, these games are arriving at a consistent pace of almost 1 game per month, which is quite remarkable given how long games take to make.

While the company's biggest franchises are mostly still in the future, and I think we're all keen for that next 3D Mario and such, I still think the lineup so far deserves credit both for the wide range of different genres on offer, and how regularly they have been hitting.

While Fire Emblem is in no way an RTS and never has lol, it’s a tactical RPG series, the point still stands!

It really has been such a varied lineup and something I can certainly applaud. At least a couple of these are nice surprises, so I’m looking forward to what surprises Nintendo has in store for 2027.

Got the ultimate action-adventure releasing in a month and a half too!

You called down the thunder, now reap the whirlwind

Completely agree. That's the reason I decided to vote with my wallet and bought a Switch 2. The OoT remake presentation convinced me, that and the complete fiasco that is the current Playstation model.

I love Splatoon Raiders and Yoshi and the Mysterious Book, two games that I never thought to pick up previously. I also enjoy MP4 and even Hogwarts Legacy on the system. Great little console and the future lineup has plenty of games I am planning to buy.

The upgraded Switch 1 titles (many of them free upgrades, mind you) are just the cherry on the top!

Vote the Mayor for Mayor!

Preach.

I've felt this way from the beginning. In terms of its software pipeline, Nintendo is doing things the right way. It's releasing first-party games on a regular basis. It's investing in "AA" experiences so as not to break the bank or create fallow periods. And it's experimenting with many different genres and play styles. Most importantly, many of its games are GOTY contenders.

In an increasingly dysfunctional industry, it's really nice to see.

I respect Nintendo for continuing to push some of their other franchises on Switch 2. It's awesome to see franchises like Donkey Kong, Fire Emblem, and Metroid get a lot of love early on, even more than on Switch 1.

Ocarina of Time is my favorote game ever so I'm super pleased about the remake.

The fact we already have such an amazing lineup without 3D Mario, Animal Crossing, or Super Smash Bros. announced is a testament to the quality of Switch 2's start.

Only 1 new IP and it's a clunker

I agree it is better than some say, but that is ultimately up to one's own preferences.
I will say that if you're looking at Wii U's first-party lineup from the same time in months (so about November 2012 to May 2014) it is better. It is paced way better, that is for sure.
Two outliers that worry people are the lack of 3D Mario and Super Smash Bros. 3D Mario would already be out in any previous piece of Nintendo hardware. Super Smash Bros. would at least be unveiled by now.
Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS was by Smash standards a relatively late release in a hardware life cycle because it was released the same year as Super Smash Bros. for Wii U. Super Smash Bros. on N64 took over 2 years from the N64 launch to release because it was a new IP.
3D Mario and Super Smash Bros. are such huge releases that it is concerning to players that things are radio silent. They don't even have Switch 2 editions of any 3D Mario game or of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Even more concerning, Ultimate has no enhancements for Switch 2 that aren't automatic. I'm really dreading that if we get Super Smash Bros. Ultimate as a native Switch 2 title (in lieu of or in addition to a new game) we will have to pay full price all over again or have a steeper upgrade path of $20 or much more.

The examples follow the genre, so "action" refers to Hyrule Warriors while life sim refers to the next game, Pokopia.
