I agree it is better than some say, but that is ultimately up to one's own preferences.
I will say that if you're looking at Wii U's first-party lineup from the same time in months (so about November 2012 to May 2014) it is better. It is paced way better, that is for sure.
Two outliers that worry people are the lack of 3D Mario and Super Smash Bros. 3D Mario would already be out in any previous piece of Nintendo hardware. Super Smash Bros. would at least be unveiled by now.
Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS was by Smash standards a relatively late release in a hardware life cycle because it was released the same year as Super Smash Bros. for Wii U. Super Smash Bros. on N64 took over 2 years from the N64 launch to release because it was a new IP.
3D Mario and Super Smash Bros. are such huge releases that it is concerning to players that things are radio silent. They don't even have Switch 2 editions of any 3D Mario game or of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Even more concerning, Ultimate has no enhancements for Switch 2 that aren't automatic. I'm really dreading that if we get Super Smash Bros. Ultimate as a native Switch 2 title (in lieu of or in addition to a new game) we will have to pay full price all over again or have a steeper upgrade path of $20 or much more.
