Speaking of Metroid Prime, the 2023 Remake of the original is one of the absolute gold standards in my opinion, remaining incredibly faithful to the 2002 original while giving it a breathtakingly beautiful makeover.

Yeah, count me in - for me DOOM (and games that came from it) is all about mazes, switches, keycards and interconnected design. As in, there is actual sense of exploration. Doom 2016 is arena shooter, which is fine by itself, but not the DOOM I want. |
I thought there was a good amount of exploration in Doom 2016 with the collectibles and upgrades hidden throughout the maps.

Foundry is pretty good throwback to Doom 1/2, but overall it lacks level design of those old games.

Onimusha Way of the Sword is a great Reimagining of the series. Best main character by far. Easily the best game in the series and I like those PS2 games a lot. But in a way it's like going from PS1 era RE to modern RE. It just got better as the tech did. Modernized it without needing to pander to one extreme or the other. That's what 7th gen reboots did. Gotta appeal only to the west and make it edgier. So DmC is a pile of shit. Industry and audiences grown beyond that and allow us to have reboots like WoTS.

Best:
FF7 Remake: It drastically changed the original to where it is a very different game but that's not a bad thing.
Worst:
The Last of Us Part I: I got it on sale (but not a deep discount) on disc, and it is the best version of the game to me. It gets the spot here for being unnecessary and having a high price tag. I'm glad they didn't add stuff that screwed up the game or story, but it is such a minimal remake.
Lifetime Sales Predictions
Switch: 159 million (was 73 million, then 96 million, then 113 million, then 125 million, then 144 million, then 151 million, then 156 million, then 161 million)
PS5: 116 million (was 105 million, then 115 million, then 122 million)
Xbox Series X/S: 38 million (was 60 million, then 67 million, then 57 million. then 48 million. then 40 million)
Switch 2: 120 million (was 116 million)
PS4: 120 mil (was 100 then 130 million, then 122 million) Xbox One: 51 mil (was 50 then 55 mil)
3DS: 75.5 mil (was 73, then 77 million)

It had some issues though, mainly the game sometimes blocking your way back for no good reason and without warning, and sometimes secrets were hidden in places where it wasn't clear if you'd fall to your death or succeed in getting there. That's an issue in a game with checkpoints, i.e. without the option to save freely. Personally I also thought the secrets in Doom 2016 often felt like a bit of a tacked-on feature rather than something that's an integral part of the game. I think games feeling like a collection of features rather than a coherent whole is a common issue these days, so at least that's not unique to Doom 2016 (for better or worse...).

As a reboot/reimagining I fucking loved Doom '16, it was my GOTY that year by a country mile.
