Yeah, count me in - for me DOOM (and games that came from it) is all about mazes, switches, keycards and interconnected design. As in, there is actual sense of exploration.

Doom 2016 is arena shooter, which is fine by itself, but not the DOOM I want.

I thought there was a good amount of exploration in Doom 2016 with the collectibles and upgrades hidden throughout the maps.

It had some issues though, mainly the game sometimes blocking your way back for no good reason and without warning, and sometimes secrets were hidden in places where it wasn't clear if you'd fall to your death or succeed in getting there. That's an issue in a game with checkpoints, i.e. without the option to save freely. Personally I also thought the secrets in Doom 2016 often felt like a bit of a tacked-on feature rather than something that's an integral part of the game. I think games feeling like a collection of features rather than a coherent whole is a common issue these days, so at least that's not unique to Doom 2016 (for better or worse...).
