I haven't played a lot of remakes and such, but so far they've all been good: the Crash trilogy, Crash Team Racing, the Spyro trilogy, MediEvil, Black Mesa... Of course they have their rough edges as well, but I think they've been a lot of fun in general.

People have mentioned Doom 2016 here, and I can't say I really like it. On the surface, it has a lot of what made the originals so good, but at least with my playstyle, it feels very different, and it doesn't really offer the option to play it like the originals. I'm sure it's a fun game if you're into that kind of stuff, but I think it deviates too much from the originals to be a good reimagining even if you find it fun. Just for the record, my biggest complaints are that it's an arena shooter that half-forces you into melee for glory kills to replenish your ammo, and those glory kills have annoying animations you get tired of watching very quickly (even if they're not very long animations).

Yeah, count me in - for me DOOM (and games that came from it) is all about mazes, switches, keycards and interconnected design. As in, there is actual sense of exploration.

Doom 2016 is arena shooter, which is fine by itself, but not the DOOM I want.

I thought there was a good amount of exploration in Doom 2016 with the collectibles and upgrades hidden throughout the maps.
