With the Ocarina of Time remake on the way, what do you consider to be the best and worst examples of remakes/reimaginings in gaming, and why?

Super Mario RPG remake stands as my favorite remake of all time. Never played the original, but man, they did a complete visual overhaul on the game while retaining everything that made the original so charming. One of my favorite games ever made!

TTYD, Star Fox, Crash N’Sane Trilogy, and Spyro are also some solid options that come to mind. I also really liked the Mario v DK remake from 2024. Gave that game a whole lot of charm with the new layer of paint.

You never played the original but are going to tell us that the remake managed to retain the charm of the original? Lol am i reading this right

Best: FF Tactics, the REvil remakes (minus 3), Dead Space remake, Trials of Mana (underrated imo), Odin Sphere Leif, Tactics Ogre, all the DQ remakes, the Suikoden 1 and 2 remakes, Shadow of the colossus, CB Nsane trilogy, the FF7 remakes tho i guess they should be seen more as a sequel than remake

Worst: Revil 3, Prince of Persia, whatever the hell Warcraft 3 reforged was, GTA trilogy, MediEvil was baad, i guess Star Fox Zero tho its prolly more a reboot than a remake

Best Kirby Superstar Ultra, Pokemon Heart Gold/Soul Silver

Worst- Mario 3D allstars, Pokemon Shining Diamond/Brilliant Pearl

Best. Ys Oath of Felghana. Amazing remake of Ys III which was a weaker entry. 2D and side scrolling. Ys III still uses a sprite for characters but the world is 3D. Amped up the music and a fun combat system. The game is so fast like traditional Ys. It's like playing an ARPG on Cocaine.

Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 is great. While it has 3 in the name. It's a reboot. A really fun one at that. Improved on a some things from the originals.

I really like the Assault Suit Leynos remake. Got me into the series. Has a new nice art style. Gives you the shield by default and fixes some things from the original. Love it!

Doom 2016. Do I need to say anymore?

Worst. DmC Devil May Cry. Let's take everything fun about the character and make it a generic 2000s teenage edglord. Let's take the depth of combat and make it braindead. Let's take 60FPS and make it 30FPS...don't forget squirrel cum. 

Also yeah Bomberman Act Zero is pretty awful. To be honest 7th gen is maybe the worst generation in gaming history for Reboots. This need to make Japanese franchises more restern backfired almost every time. While LoS was good. Bionic Commando was a mess. Bomberman a mess. Golden Axe Beast Rider sucks. The Sparkster remake sucked. Flashback sucked. Turok. Alone int he Dark, Medal of Honor. List goes on.

For some none 7th gen bad reboots. FInal Fight Streetwise on PS2. Make it 3D. Give it a edgy tone and Cody turned into a mutant zombie. Ok. 

It is a strange statement to say if not played the original. However, he is still correct. Also whoever said the Medevil remake is bad is on crazy pills. That remake was great. 

Best: Resident Evil Remakes. They succeed in what I think is most important keeping the feel from the original games while still feeling fresh.

Another game that is they did good job on is Starcraft. This is on the other end of the spectrum where they pretty much kept the original as is but made a graphical overhaul. 

Worst: Warcraft 3 Reforged. Look, they might have fixed many of the issues this game had. But i will never forgive them for killing of official ways to play the original online when this one hit. It basically just took my favorite PC game away for me. I game I had played for 15+ years when reforged was released

The Settlers 2 for Nintendo DS. This is more of a port than a remake, but they had to build new controls and such at least. Damn this thing is buggy. Since I loved the original release i really tried to play the game on my DS, but no matter what I did, I could not get the boats to work properly and never got past the fifth (or sixth) chapter. Tried every trick in the book to win without the ship. Pretty much everything in this game breaks at some point in a normal playing session. Stay away.
