Onimusha Way of the Sword is a great Reimagining of the series. Best main character by far. Easily the best game in the series and I like those PS2 games a lot. But in a way it's like going from PS1 era RE to modern RE. It just got better as the tech did. Modernized it without needing to pander to one extreme or the other. That's what 7th gen reboots did. Gotta appeal only to the west and make it edgier. So DmC is a pile of shit. Industry and audiences grown beyond that and allow us to have reboots like WoTS.
