Mario Kart Wii was talked down because back then everyone was accusing Nintendo of "catering to the casualz". It's an amazing game but because it had items and stuff (shocking for a Mario Kart game, I know!) gamers and reviewers said it was for casuals. Thankfully, we've moved on from this childishness, but the game's reputation still suffers from it.

Y’know it’s really funny how the newest MarioKart always goes from being a huge step down from the previous entry (MKWii to MK64 back in 2008, MK8 to MKWii in 2014, MKWorld to MK8DX in 2025) to eventually being seen as the “definitive version of MarioKart”. It’s certainly not a MarioKart exclusive phenomenon, but it’s funny to see it happen nonetheless.

Mario Kart 8 has been the best game in the franchise since it released in the Wii U.

I'll be honest I have no clue how the community reacts or has reacted to its various releases, but I was here during MK8 release and here it has always been loved, and the sentiment I saw online was that it was so good it could even start saving the Wii U itself.

Yeah while it's reception was positive overall and it was a great game from day 1 IMO, I definitely remember some people complaining about the half-assed battle mode and pink gold Peach.

Hopefully Pink Gold Peach is one character not added to Mario Kart World.

Has the lighting been fixed?

This is huge for me. I have a group of 7 friends. We almost never play video games when we hang out because most of them are 4 player at most and we have to take turns. Now we can all play Mario Kart together at the same time. I'm so fucking happy ^^

Why would it need fixing? Mario Kart 8 has great lighting.

This is the first time I’ve ever heard somebody even mention lighting was an issue for MK8DX lol. I wonder what he’s talking about? Perhaps a Switch 2 bug with HDR or something?

When it released the  brightness was off. Colour looked washed out.  There were vids on youtube addressing the issue

Never found this an issue myself, it always looked terrific on every screen I've tried it on.

That's just the art style they went with. Yeah it's way less saturated and colorful than titles like Double Dash. I don't mind it but I could understand why some would want it to be have a more saturated typical cartoonish colour palette.

Some tracks don't use as mute colours and soft lighting, though even MK8 rainbow road isn't that colourful lol.

But personally I think it's a great looking game, only really some of the booster pass courses are poor visually.
