There is zero evidence of this.

Creating new tracks/worlds for a Switch 2 level game takes time, whereas adding higher resolutions and 8-player support to a Switch1 game is relatively quick and cheap, this is just a little freebie to keep people happy while the main course cooks.

All the time spent working on Mario Kart World, yet they didn't bother giving Mario Kart World a good roster, just random enemies thrown in as drivers, and fewer battle modes.

Cow is pretty popular.  Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is what it is after two massive DLC's being added on the Wii U and Switch 1.  We haven't gotten a big DLC update yet for World.

How does this make any sense looking through a business perspective? Shouldn't they focus on Mario Kart's new entry, specially when it got a fair share of criticism

Might incentivize someone who owns MK8D to finally buy a Switch 2. Could also sell controllers.

Finally?  It's been out for 15 months.  Most console owners purchase a system a few years after release.

Well hot damn... i need top pop my cart in and give it a spin.

Cool update! Gave it a spin last night and the improved loading screens are VERY welcome! As far as I could tell, it wasn't taking any longer than 2 seconds to get to the next race. Resolution is noticeable as well, but wouldn't say it's dramatic. You could always see pixelated edges on your character as they move. That's not there anymore.

Wish I had 8 people interested in MK to play locally lol very welcome update! Only thing that would've made this better was 120fps support.

There’s a quote from Furukawa on this, but essentially, Nintendo does these Switch 2 upgrades on Switch 1 software in order to encourage current Switch 1 owners to “make the jump”. By offering free upgrades on popular software, consumers have all the more reason to justify spending $500USD (or perhaps even less if willing to trade in their Switch 1 for credit on their Switch 2).

It feels like we never will, and even if we did it won't be free, when the base game is already overpriced.

Free update? That's nice to hear.
