Is this a common problem of PS3 consoles? The red laser of my PS3 Fat also doesn't work anymore, so it doesn't read DVD movies or PS2 game discs.

I still don't have anything to watch Bluray.

I watched DVDs for some 15 years on PC (most of it plugged on TV with VGA) until few years back I inherited a player.

I typically use my Series X. At some point soon now that I have more money coming in I'm planning buying a dedicated standalone 4K Blu-ray player as a backup.

From what I've heard, it's actually the blue laser that's more prone to failing.  Mine is the 80gb fat so it isn't PS2 compatible but DVDs are a no-go now.  To be fair though, it did survive a drop off of a table (not too far and onto a carpet, thankfully) that caused a piece of plastic on the front panel to pop off and still works fine otherwise.

To be honest, I don't remember the last time I saw an movie DVD.

To watch movies, I use my PC. But I had a couple of discs here to play on my PS2.

Sometimes PS5,sometimes Series X. The reason is when I do watch, one of them might have a disc game in there. So I use the other. Rarely use PS3 but sometime shave. Once in a while I will watch a DVD on PS2 hooked up to a CRT for a retro experience.

Starting from PS3, I've been using the latest Playstation console as my dedicated player.

However, I'm looking to getting a dedicated 4k blu ray player sometime in the near future.

I "watch" them with my eyes via a 65" Samsung OLED TV.

I "play" them back through my Series X connected to said TV.

I usually use my PS5/PS4/PS3 to watch Blu-Ray/DVDs.
