The PS3 may have my favourite library of games of all time (either that or the GameCube ...& maybe SNES). The PS3 (to this day) is the console I have the most games for.

A constant stream of AAA games would get released during the 7th gen. It's crazy to think something like that could happen nowadays. How many great games were released in 1 single year? Sometimes multiple titans within the game month.
PS3 had great AAA exclusives too. I got MGS4 with my PS3, great time (MGS4 was the reason I first chose PS3 over the 360). I would buy a 360 a couple of years later then go back and forth between them (including Wii & DS), but the PS3 was the console I ended up playing the most & having most games for.

Btw, I bought the backwards compatible PS3, then replaced the 60gb harddrive for a 320gb one. Possibly the best thing I ever done in my entire history of my consoles, as it was backwards compatible with PS1 & PS2 discs whilst having massive storage too. Very happy times :D

Also, walking in a pre-owned games store and seeing major (and relatively new) AAA games priced between £2, £3, £5, £10 £12 made the 7th generation best value for money. This is such an unsung point that no one ever talkes about. I really miss those times.

It's a great console but it definitely has its flaws as well. That generation didn't have lot of nonsense, such as paid online multiplayer, yet, which I really appreciate, even though I don't play a lot online (especially on consoles because it's not free). I really hate how there's no backwards compatibility for PS3 games, I'd really like to get rid of my PS3 in my living room, but I still have a good amount of games to play on it, so I'm stuck with it.

The PS3 exclusives were just not as appealing as on the 360, especially in the first few years. I never liked that type of controller either. Nor that it was generally more expensive but delivered worse performance. But, free online is great and it’s a shame it didn’t stick around.

+ Backwards compatibility with PS1 + PS2
+ Free online multiplayer

- Poor multiplat performance (split RAM, shit GPU)
- XMB is slow as fuck (I loved its design otherwise)
- Only early models are fully backwards compatible with PS2
- The weakest era for 3rd party gaming
- Slippery triggers

It's my least favourite Playstation home console, but solid overall.

Had a rough start, but by the end had many of my all-time favourite games on it. The biggest downside was the Cell architecture that meant many multiplatform games had issues, especially in its early years, and quite a few exclusive titles were essentially stuck on the PS3 for years, if not decades, without any later re-releases because of the technology. However, I still consider it an excellent system overall. Not quite Sony's finest, but great nonetheless.

CELL was a mistake. The X360 is a far better system for third parties and the better hardware for that generation in my opinion. But PS3 exclusives were great and it was still a solid system overall.

I did also prefer 360's lineup, yeah. That said, I'd still say PS3 had a terrific library and some killer exclusives in its own right.

Great game library on worst console hardware from Sony.

I never owned a PS1 and only owned a PS2 (had like 3 games) for maybe a year so PS3 was the first Sony system that I fully invested in. The first party was so appealing, Sony were truly unmatched. I actually re-bought a PS3 a month ago and the nostalgia just hits, tho …. Installs taking FOREVER is definitely something that still annoys me. Performance wise tho some of the third party games on PS3 are fucking rough. Was also the gen arrogant Sony got twatted in the mouth, a Gen they rightfully and deservedly lost.

Ungodly slow by modern standards, or even by 2013 standards at minimum.

I just bought The Infamous Collection on the PS Store because the disc prices for the 2 games are similar or a little more expensive than digital and Festival of Blood is digital-only and a PS3 exclusive.

I bought it hours ago and it's still downloading. 54 Mbps is the max theoretical wi-Fi download speed for PS3. But it's said to usually download at 5 to 15 Mbps.
