Which will sell more? Which will perform better with critics?

Revelation (Sales & Critical Reception) 8 19.05%

Ocarina (Sales & Critical Reception) 25 59.52%

Revelation (Sales), Ocari... 4 9.52%

Ocarina (Sales), Revelati... 5 11.90%

Total:42

OOT will likely curb-stomp Revelation in sales. If Nintendo markets it right and puts out a good product, it has a decent shot of beating the entire Remake trilogy in sales.

Critically, FF7 Revelation will probably win, but I don't really take professional critics seriously for the same reason I don't take the Game Awards seriously.

I'd need to know more about the Ocarina remake to say for sure, but my gut says it wins easily in sales but the two are closely matched critically.

Ocarina will wipe the floor with it sales wise. If it goes as far to be a reimagining, I could see it doing 20m LT.

Revelation will be massively lucky to hit 5m LT whereas I think Ocarina will sell that in its first 6 weeks on market.

Review wise its another story, I'd bet on Revelations. A more direct remake I think will see Ocarina perform in the high 80s whereas a reimagining should be in the 90s. Critics really loved Rebirth despite of its many flaws, so I'm sure they'll love revalations see it hit 90 at least.

With a multiplatform release, the trilogy reaching its conclusion, and SquareEnix possibly copying Capcom's discount model, I want to think Revelation has the potential to pass 8 million copies sold lifetime, and naturally Remake and Rebirth should sell a lot more when twin and triple packs are taken into account. I think Remake is past 10 million and will leg it out to 13 million+.

OoT's performance will depend on what it actually is. If it's closer to a highend remaster (in the vein of Demon's Souls, TLoU Part 1, Nsane Trilogy, etc), I expect 10-15 million. If it's more like a reimagination or a full remake, then 20 million is possible, though we need to keep in mind that the Switch 2 is probably not coming close Switch 1's installbase, which should negatively affect the long term sales of all titles.

I expect both to review in the 92-94 range. Probably a slight edge for Ocarina though.

Ocarina should be able to do 10-20 million sales. And I could see Revelation do quite well in sales too, with the positive reception of Rebirth and multiplatform launch. But I still expect it to fall behind Ocarina.

The fact that I finally can have my dream team : Cloud - Vincent - Yuffie makes me say FFVII Revelation.

Revelation is going to be multiplat Day 1 but I don't see that as enough for sales.
I see 15 million units around the relative ceiling for Revelation, and it probably won't crack 10 million units.
Ocarina of Time will sell over 10 million units and might finish closer to 20 million units.
Critical Reception will likely be closer. Revelation will probably be 89-93 and Ocarina of Time will likely be 90-96.
OOT wins.

Xbox Series X/S: 38 million (was 60 million, then 67 million, then 57 million. then 48 million. then 40 million)

Asmuch as I love the FF7 remake, just like in the past, OoT will take the Win again.

This is a great thread.  FF7 vs. Ocarina has been the #1 rivalry since people started discussing video games on the internet.

Who will win?

Sales - Revelation.  It's multiplat, day 1.  There are some parts of the world where consoles have little to no presence and the PC is the primary platform in these places.  We also can't really be certain what Switch 2's final install base will be since it's only been on the market for 1 year.  Even if Switch 2 ends up beating the Switch 1's install base Ocarina will have to be an extremely leggy game to outsell Revelation.

Critics - It will be very close, but I think Ocarina will take it.  The OG games rated as 92 (FF7) vs. 99 (Ocarina) on Metacritic.  Both have universal acclaim, but critics obviously love Ocarina more.  I do think the remake of Ocarina will lose a few points and Revelation will probably be close to a 92, but that will still put Ocarina ahead.

I wouldn't overestimating revelations multiplat sales. PC/Switch/Xbox will add a max of 2m sales. It being the final in the trilogy could boost it over Rebirth but not over Remake. Very few people will start the trilogy from the final game.

There's definitely a limit to how many sales Revelation can have, but at the same time, to me it seems that PC games can often have great legs. That includes the previous two games as well. I would definitely expect OoT to outsell Revelation initially, but I don't think it's an unreasonable idea that Revelation might still beat OoT in the long run. Personally I'd still find that surprising, but if Revelation is to have a chance, it'll probably be due to legs.
